Title: SCOTUS Nominee
Post by: Nemo on January 30, 2017, 10:17:21 AM
will require Senate to go nuclear.

Tuesday night at 2000 he will be announced.  Reportedly down to 2, Gorsuch and Hardiman.  Both are great on 2A :fuckYeah: issues, but their politics on Roe  (not discussed this thread) give me great qualms.

Open that second window and start reading up.  We might get a chance to meet on a protest march in DC or something.  Oh, thats right, DC doesn't allow guns.  Well, cancel that idea.

Unfortunately, the Senate WILL go nuclear. Sen Reid laid the groundwork for this in 2011 and again in 2013. With that written, there is NO RULE in the Constitution that requires 60 members to vote for a nominee.

Many existing Judges and Justices have been confirmed with less than 60 votes. Supreme Court Justice Thomas comes immediately to mind. The vote was 52/48 in favor of Thomas.

Senator reed thought it was a big joke, I remember well the smirk on his face when he pulled that stunt. He was well informed not to do it and that someday it would come back to bite him, but I guess like all of the other demoncrats they thought they had the 2016 election in the bag.

Yupper, ditto on Gorsuch.

Should be fun to watch the Progressives go batty during the confirmation process.

On another note: As I have reported before, I did mot vote for Mr. Trump. With that declaration out front, so far he has done what he has promised he would do. And everything he has done through yesterday, I support 100%. He has been a man of his word. WOW, maybe he will change Washington DC.

Time will tell.

The dirty tricks the democrats used on Justice Thomas is what turned my democrat wife into a conservative Republican. :fuckYeah:

It takes only a majority to confirm a nominee.  The 60 is required to invoke Cloture.  That limits further debate to 100 more hours.  Thats necessary to overcome a filibuster with can go on effectively for ever.  Half a dozen coordinated Senators can get start a filibuster and keep it going and going and going and .  .  ..

They have the floor and no vote is held because they do not yield the floor to call the question.  Therefore no vote resulting in no confirmation as SCOTUS Justice.

Well, I personally wanted Andrew Napolitano as the SCOTUS nominee, but I guess Gorusch is better than nothing.

Reports seem to indicate that having the Senate go nuclear on this will not be necessary.

Now, if Ginsburg, Kennedy and Breyer could all retire too  .  .  ..

Same here.

I also like trey Gowdy but he is harder sell due to lack of bench time.
But ideologically he is 100% pro USA and pro constitution.

Unlike say Sotomayor who as  a member of LaRaza is basically sworn to agitate and damage the US

Make it all the libs gone and I am good.  But the 3 I mentioned are of an age range where their departure on those grounds can be expected would not be unusual at all.

All the libs gone would not be bad.  Keeping 2 would be good also though.  Some to let the emperor know he has no clothes is always a good idea.
