Recycled Information
« on: December 15, 2011, 06:51:40 PM »
I feel like this site has come to a stand still.
I feel like we haven't been gaining enough new members, & all we are doing is Recycling information amongst ourselves.
We are not accomplishing anything new.

I think we need a Straight Prep promotional contest or something. Get the word out.
The active members on this site don't even make a full platoon. Sure we got three companies of members but no one is active.

We got the ball in our court now, lets play hard. If not we are going to lose.

Honestly man, I think we need a break. We don't have our shit together, and until we do I think we should lay low. we need to fix the foundation before we start building the skyscraper. I have honestly been bitter at lnl for tearing down everything. I think we need to sit and think about it before we start doing stuff.

P.S. we need a daddy that is not busy all of the time.
Fan out your shots. We want everyone to get some.

I agree with the fact that we are now stuck on mostly talking about news and ranting about different things and I know that is one of the negatives with sites like these and here is why.  If you hold a contest to get people on and to contribute something useful you get an immediate surge of people and not necessarily new information which eventually dies down.  We also have the issue that many of the members on here either do not have anything to contribute of for whatever reason do not want to participate.  Of course if you clear the roster of inactive members you run the risk of alienating people away from the site.

I agree that it takes a charismatic figure(s) that motivate people to contribute and participate and give the whole direction.  However NO ONE who would be interested in this site would have the time or money to make this their full time job so its not realistic to expect such unrealistic expectations from people.  After all this site is to supplement knowledge and real life, so living online is through the forums would be against what this sites about.  And no body needs a damn daddy here, grow up and take some initiative! lol

Not another one of these threads...... [img]http://www.arrse.co.uk/at

1) If your favorite section is slow, start filling in with your own threads. I saw the "news" section was slow as shit for a while, so now I post anything and everything I see that would be important.  However, I realize that most of us have jobs/college and we all can't be posting vids/informational threads all the time, but as long as everyone contributes something every once in a while, I'm perfectly happy.

2) This can play two ways: We can either let people find this site on their own like it is right now, and keep our spot on "the list" as low as possible. Or.....we push this site to the top, promote the shit out of it, and wake this country up.  One problem with option 2 is eventually it would require 24 hour moderation (if it got big enough), but i think that's a topic for blogTV.

3) As far as the whole "daddy" thing goes. I think the current moderators are doing a great job and TG is doing what he can (which I think I speak for everyone when I say that we sure as hell appreciate it).

I agree reaver, I was once a big poster on LnL. It seems as if we have no orginal content just a bunch of links and some casual convo's. Im not quite sure why. Perhaps we should have a weekly or bi-weekly Blogtv show to discuss major issues, I have found that they can be quite productive untill around 2 am. Another reason for the slow down could have to do with Christmas coming up, people travling and all. So I would give it a month or so to really see where we are at. Oh, and please give me my edit button back.

As a relative noob, here's my couple of cents, fwiw, which is admittedly not a lot. I was never on the l&l site, but did watch their YT channel. When l&l blew town, all the important bits and people got scattered to the wind. Think this site needs to build up and promote in a methodical and calculated manner. There is no hurry to have l&l version 2 by next week. That will come with time, solid efforts by members driving content and taking up the reins of responsibility to make the content and help foster the forum.

Bump!

I am bumping this subject as I want to think about it.

I know some folks who have left because the site is boring. I will talk to them and get more feed back.

I do agree that we need to have biweekly or monthly meeting (s). Whether it is Blog TV or a conf call. I am not available Saturdays nights though- Not that it should stop you folks. Saturday in my household is "date night."

I agree that this site has gotten a little stagnant but we have to start somewhere. TG is doing a fine  job at what he is supposed to be doing. Remember this isn't LnL and TG is not here to hold our hands.  Yes it would be nice if there were a group of us that lived close enough to make informative videos but we can't always have our cake and eat it too. Some of you guys are really putting in some good effort making videos and posting great topics. Others like my self primary lurk with our pants down Chiming in every once in a while. All of which is ok.

I do think there are ways maybe to spice it up and draw new members. And with more members will come new topics and more ideas.  A blog tv round table sounds like a great way to start.

Or you folks could actually talk about prepping, look at the conversation that was spawned by Ken asking about storing hard goods as example.

I sent a excel worksheet showing what food I put away as a mininum for one person/ one year. I will have to go back and check by receipts but off my head it was around $1,500- per person per year. Far cheaper then what the freeze dried companies charge.

For you experts it might be just a worksheet to look at to compare food preps. For the newbies it is a good place to start.

As mentioned before I would say that 65-75% was purchased at the local LDS cannery. The rest was from restaurant supply houses and big box retailers like Sam's Club, Costco, etc.

If you would like a copy PM me with your e-mail address and I will send it to you or maybe TG could figure out how to post an excel spreadsheet on SP.

I am sorry but I am still waiting for the corrected medical list to come back from my sister in-law. As I have stated before, she is a RN and promised the revised spreadsheet back to my by Thxgiving- It didn't happen. It's tough dealing with relatives at times. Their priorities are not my priorities. What is that all about anyway!  [img]http://www.arrse.co.uk/at

Good to see you bro. I'm good.

TG; I dunno man. You talk a lot about making that chilli but your wife seemed to know more about it. Be careful I might convince her to rub you after making the chilli  :o
