Getting neighbors on board.
« on: May 04, 2012, 02:03:03 AM »
Alright gents. I got an issue that needs discussed.

I am a lone prepper, who plans on bugging in for about 30 days. If its still bad. I'm policing up the rest of my shit and rolling out.
Now, my neighbors have become really good friends. They are good people, polite, clean, good people.
They have 4 kids and are Mormon's. They are religious...like, the kind of people that I worry might jeopardize some situations. ( At this I would normally just ditch the idea ) The thing is. The father is an Engineer  and works for the government in a secret facility place he basically designed the latest FLIR ( Forward looking inferred ) He's built his own shed from scratch, and he fixed my glove box latch in about three minutes. Do the downfalls outway his abilities. I mean he's a pretty bad ass engineer ( NASA excepted his application for a job working on the space station )

I don't really want to have to care for 7 kids including my own and my step brother and sister but is that needed? Is it a part of prepping? Have I been selfish for not wanting to do that this entire time? Have I been right for wanting to take care of mine & mine alone?

How do I get them on board? & under their circumstances should I even bother?

Thanks for the help gents.

that's up to you and you alone. he sounds like a standup guy, but he's got 7 kids. lots of mouths to feed. you have to decide whether the pros outweigh the cons. no one else can decide that for you.

He's got 4 kids. It would be 7 total at the BOL...

I really don't think it would at this point.

Like NOLA said weigh the pros and cons. I'd kill to have a neighbor like that, all mine are welfare junkies that smoke and sell their "Medicine" all day long. Probably gonna have some problems down the road with them... Try your best to get him on your side but not be dependent on you.

I don't know. You get him on board , and he's that smart, with that many mouths to feed. He might really take off with the idea, and end up building, gathering and preparing one hell of a BOL of his own. You might end up wanting to join up with him instead of the other way around.

Hey Gentlemen, I hope I can provide some insight. I have a couple of good friends, and coworkers whom are Mormon ( no, I don't subscribe to that faith), and from my understanding, they and their local temple, or chapter, have already established an egress plan in the event a situation arises. He's probably already allocated to a group as far as a resource goes, so even if you offered he may decline. It might be worth while to discuss your egress/or lack there of (while marinating op sec of course) with him and gather some Intel as to what his plans may be, you never know, maybe hes thought of something you haven't or vis-versa. Good luck with your endeavors regarding this matter, and I hope this helped.

If he is the kind of Mormon that has a year worth of food put up then he might well be a bigger asset than you think!

The guy is,

Clean
Handy
Educated
Intelligent
Moral

I don't see the cons.

As to his children, we need to quit thinking about "surviving" and plan to live. Life will go on no matter what we think so its best to be prepared for that.

I would sit down with him and have a serious conversation.

I agree.  [URL=http://www.smileyvault.co

Now with that said, the last time my brother was at the Bishop house buying some preps he got into a discussion with the warehouse manager. Bottom-line he told my brother that his brothers and sisters were squared away and they are prepared to take care of their own.

I had a similar conversation at a different Bishop House with one of the older gents who helped me load up my truck. The LDS is ready. Go talk to the guy and maybe he would have some additional idea's you could share with the forum.

This, I really fail to see the downside, especially if he is one of the Mormons that keep at least a years worth of food for his family, he's already sort of prepped, if he's done that.

Its right, sit down and have a conversation with him and feel him out, see what he has to say.  LET HIM TALK, you listen.  Its time to start a plan to live and not just survive is exactly right.

I've got one or two good neighbors and I say they are worth their weight in gold.  Take advantage of them.  The thing that is hard, is getting these people to realize that we could be in for some tough times in the future.

No doubt that I find their religion a little creepy as I do a lot of religions, especially those that are die-hard and are not of the live and let live types, but you will probably find they may not be that crazy extreme or something.

We're going to have to get over a lot of differences, religion, politics, ect in order to survive this upcoming mess, if it ever kicks off.
