I would like to suggest a few things as we enter the Independence Day holiday weekend.
1) Read the
Declaration of Independence. It will take you 8 - 10 minutes. Each year for the last five, Karen and I along with 40-50 Tiverton, RI citizens in turn, read it at the towns war memorial. We won't be able to do it this year but we will still read it.
2) Try to stay away from wishing friends and family a "Happy 4th!" On the fourth we are not celebrating the 4th day of July, we are celebrating our Declaration of Independence from King George III and the British Parliament. Maybe wishing friends and family a "happy Independence Day" is more appropriate.
3) If you can rent the movie, "1776." It is a remake of the play by the same name. Karen and I watch it every year. It is a musical about the Declaration of Independence. We own the score which has all of the tunes in the play. As we travel around this Independence weekend, visiting friends and family, we will be singing along in the truck. :-D
Wishing all of my friends a wonderful and safe Independence Day holiday. Don't drink and... Drive, set off fireworks, grill, barb a que, exercise your 2A...You get the idea
