I've noted comments from other members regarding spouses having normalcy bias. From what I've observed, most folks in the U.S. and in Europe for the most part, have not been exposed to the rigors of life that the rest of the world is exposed to. Here in the U.S. especially we are insulated from the harsh reality that evil walks among us. We don't realize how difficult it can be to find the next meal or potable drinking water when we are weakened by thirst. If a true SHTF event occurs, untold millions will die because of normalcy bias. Millions will be waiting for the "government" to rescue them, to feed them, to guide them, etc. rather than taking their destiny into their own hands.
So how do we overcome this normalcy bias? I'll leave that to others here on the site, before I chime in.
However, I'll say that my spouse understands intimately how reality can change instantly, and she supports our survivalist lifestyle 100%. She was in Kuwait in 1990 when Iraq invaded the country. Due to being a foreigner, she and some family members were incarcerated in a POW tent camp in a desert area. Through a series of bribes they were released and undertook an overland journey by truck through Iran and Pakistan to India where they were able to get flights to home. Needless to say, she is a firm believer in being prepared, and she has a strong appreciation for silver and gold.
