One of the things that I recommend is that you do take baby steps first. Right off the bat I would think of making a solid 72 hour kit to cover basic poweroutages and that kind of 'low level' stuff. Once you have three days worth its alot easier to make that three weeks worth of food. After that I would focus on stocking a good boo boo kit and some water supply stuff because like the guys are saying you are going to have to make your own water. Once you have some of the most basic idems covered you can very easily add things like 5gallon buckets of hard goods and the like but don't get tunnel vision and let other aspects go by the wayside. As example I didn't put up a single roll of tp and I was sitting on 300lbs of pinto beans.. not a very good plan.

Thanks for being so cool guys it really means alot to me personally that you are stepping up and fostering new members after all this is why we started the site.
Great post TG. Your basic 72 hour kit is a great starting point. Welcome to salezzeni.

Sounds like you got a good plan. Objectives is the way to go, 3 days, 3 weeks, 3 months and what not. That way you have something to shoot for. Let us know how it goes.

i started by putting away a few ramen noodles and canned goods with a expiration of at least 2014, then for water storage id wash out tea bottles that were strong and put them away, as for weapons and ammo your pretty well off as said before, but i would add a 22 rifle to the collection for small game if it can be afforded, then one of the most important things is training, you being former military should be well off but your wife should at least know how to operate and shoot a pistol if lets say for example u have a garden and have to take care of the plants ur wife maybe attacked by someone waiting since women are easier targets most of the time, so where ever u go u want a side arm if caught off gaurd.
