Unchained Preppers

Just joined to learn a thin or two about prepping. I am generally a nice guy, but when shit hits the fan nothing will stop me from getting what I need. I will be out to protect myself and my family, and no one else. Luckily I live in an area that is mostly a bunch of pansies so I feel as if I would have an upper hand. How do you guys feel about this philosphy? At the end of the day it is about you and your families survival, not your neighbors!

Well, if you add "willing to eat human flesh" to your philosophy, you may just be be a prime candidate for "Reaver's Rangers!"

The point of prepping is so you prepared so you dont have to prey on others to survive. What your saying is what we call a wolf.
-
if it got bad enough that I'd need to eat someone, well then.....
But honestly, you guys cant tell me that when something does happen you would stop at nothing to protect your family and yourself. Honestly it's in our nature, in our bones to survive, at least it is for me. I don't think i would die short of murder if I was stripped of all my possessions. But even so, being prepared is a must.
What would a decent supply of ammo be? I have about 7000 rounds of 9mm, 1500 rounds of 12 gauge in various designs from bird shot to slugs, and I have an uncountable supply of .22 I would say at least 10,000 rounds of 22. my local gun store had a sale on 1000 round boxes for 25 bucks. I bought a lot :) I can tell you this, my ammo cache is worth more than my guns! I am considering a new rifle purchase for hunting...
Another thing, what would the alcoholic beverage of choice be? Something with a high alc. content so you can stretch it? use it for fire and cleaning wounds?
-
And being a Wolf isn't very good either, some of use are preparing to deal with Wolves.
To speak directly to your question I feel that is a piss poor philosophy to have and shows a very serious lack of fore thought on your behalf.
I am going to ask you some blunt questions. You don't need to answer them, I just want to get the gears turning.
Can you produce all the food that you and your family consumes year to year? How about clothing? Tools? Medicine? If you can then when are you going to find the time to protect yourself? Who will watch out for you when you are sleeping? What if you or your wife fall ill or worse?
The whole idea is that community will fill in the gaps. Not everyone needs to be skilled in every aspect because you can pull on the pool of people who are. Community provides security just by being there and by being accountable to one another. With a good community you will be able to live your life, hoe your garden and love your wife because someone will be up at night looking out for you.
Without that me, you and the rest of the world is nothing.

Yeah, you can never have enough .22lr. When everyone else is down to throwing rocks, the man with a .22 would be king.
Some of us have decided to stock Everclear along with our preferred liquor(s). Read more about alcohol preps here: http://straightprep.com/forum/index.php?topic=1788.0 (http://straightprep.com/forum/index.php?topic=1788.0)

I think some people have different views. Of course I can't make ALL my tools, or grow ALL my food. One thing I do know, is mother nature is quick, and always there! I have the basic knowledge on how to survive, which includes hunting and fishing. I guess I am coming from a "the world is coming to an end" standpoint instead of like a natural disaster. If a natural disaster happened and I just need to GTFO, then obviously I will stay civilized. But if people started coming after me for my supplies, or something similar, well I am going to do everything in my power to stop that.
Also, I am not married. It would be myself, and my girlfriend. Maybe my dad...and my dog. I have trained my dog to hunt. He goes duck hunting with me, and he has brought me more than his fair share of rabbits, so I think he can come along for the ride.
Also, to answer your question, I don't think I implied, or meant to imply that I am not preparing. I am. I am pretty decent medical wise(i am no doctor, but I can handle most things) and I probably don't have as big a medical supply as I should have. I am also OK at gardening, but I need to work on that. I don't know how to make tools...but I don't know what tools I'd need to make? (please enlighten me on this one) I always keep a full set of tools in my vehicle. I like to go four wheeling a lot so I have axes, shovels, and hatchets in my vehicle all the time. I can make a fire if I have nothing but wood.
I believe I have more of a bare bones approach. I believe in being prepared enough to get to your location, and then living off the land. I don't think I would ever prepare enough for a whole year... that's not in my budget or time frame. Maybe I am ignorant? But I think I just look at things differently... After all I am color blind!
I don't consider myself a wolf....
-
A fair question is "do you really think you can live off the land?"
-
Theres nothing wrong with defending you and yours from others who aim to take it.
-
Another thing, what would the alcoholic beverage of choice be? Something with a high alc. content so you can stretch it? use it for fire and cleaning wounds?
My preference is whiskey if you're buying cowboy ;)
In all seriousness though, welcome to the forum. You've come to the right place to get advice on all your prepping needs, once the hazing stops.
I suppose if you really are a nice guy, the answer to your question about rounds is, as many as you can afford. If you are in fact a ruthless cannibal, you already have plenty of rounds and now should go practice shooting them, all of them- you can never be too good at shooting.
FYI- people do get a little touchy about cannibalism around here, so asking about cook times to rotisserie a baby or what steak sauce folks prefer when eating opposable thumbs probably won't go over very well...
Sounds like you're well rounded though and should fit right in :)

Ooh! Ooh! pick me pick me!

A fair question is "do you really think you can live off the land?"
well to a certain degree, yes. Obviously there are extremes in all parts of the world that would not suit the human body well.
It may sound weird, but nature will always take back what was once hers, and she'll provide for you if you know how, and where to look. (i am not an environmental whacko, our planet will be fine) Where I currently live it would be a little more difficult to find food. But drive 3-400 miles north and east and you'll be in even more plentiful lands! Where winters are not as harsh as other parts of the country (yes it snows, but it doesn't get below 0 almost ever) and the summers are more mild than where I live now.

I like you [URL=http://www.smileyvault.co You see some of my humor :)
I am not a cannibal... but I have a very strong instinct to survive, so i'll never know what i'll do until I am placed into a situation that might call for something like that. Whiskey is good. Maybe I should throw my alcohol in a bag. One bag for GTFO natural disaster that actually has survival gear, and another bag for the end of the world that has all the finest whiskeys and tequilas I could afford. I get your humor, I'm also pretty twisted, but my comments were borderline inappropriate.
The purpose of this forum is to promote the open exchange of ideas between folks with similar concerns, to prepare for a sustainable future. The folks on this forum might well be your neighbors, and as such, the emphasis needs to be on helping you be self-reliant, not helping you stockpile weapons so you can loot the neighborhood.
Your questions will be well received, as long as no one sees you as a potential threat to themselves or their families.
Check out some of the great info people have posted on food preservation, medical aide, survival gear etc...
Once again, welcome!

Always keep your humanity. Enough said...

I'm probably going to get a warning from this, but it needs to be said as bluntly as possible. IF YOU THINK YOU CAN LIFE OFF THE LAND IN SHTF SITUATION YOU DESERVE TO DIE!!!!! Anyone that knows history knows that durring the great depression the land was hunted out. No rabbits, no deer, no racoons, no nothing time to rethink your plan. If you CAN NOT produce you own food you are dead. Futhermore if you think you can survive with not help beyond you ol' lady, your dad and your dog..... Then referre to above statement. I am prepared for people with your mindset and its very painful and bloody. So hang out awhile and learn, you might just find something you like. People are gonna give me hell about this but get on youtube and see if you can find any of the old mrlockandload philosophy videos.

Never meant I would loot the neighborhood. Although I wouldn't mind hitting up Best Buy, hmmmm......

That is all a very good point. I hate that you think that of me. I do understand your point, it is a great point, and I am trying to get to that stage. However, I do not make very much money so I will take a long time to get up to a good point. Which is why I feel like my current stage would be decent. I don't have a year worth of supplies, I have a month. So yea, I'd be screwed.
I have to do some more reading. I have this image of thousands of stupid people running around staying home and looting the neighbor hood, while I drive out to the middle of nowhere! I have this idea that most people wont be able to discern a BOWE soon enough. They are sheeple and will stay behind until told to leave.... Like in Katrina. Thousands of people left early, they were fine....
Maybe i'll just bug in in anything short of a nuclear attack. If we were nuked in my major metropolitan area, I would be dead before I got home anyways...
I don't even know where this thread started going, I just wanted to say i'll do whatever it takes to survive... :)
I am definitely here to learn, and this is all new to me, so bare with me :)
BTW idk how people here feel about this, but I will be shipping to boot camp(Marines) in January.
-
Sooo where can I find "the basics" thread?
-
So....... in 2 months you are going to Parris? And you intend to be able to take care of your family from??? Cherry point, Lejeune, 29 palms, Quantico, Okinawa? I dont know where you are from but really? How old are you?
-
I don't even know where this thread started going, I just wanted to say i'll do whatever it takes to survive... :)
Welcome aboard Tony.
I'm going to chip in here with some things. The point of prepping is to be able to survive and sustain whatever life throws at you and your family. Busting down your neighbors door and stealing his supplies because you couldn't prepare yourself is not what this forum is all about. Not saying that is what your doing, but the based on reading some of your posts, I can kinda see it.
So anyway, dive in, there's a ton of info around here already. :)
-
I wouldn't mind hitting up Best Buy, hmmmm......
Hey Toni, we got a long way to go buddy. When I read your first post.... I won't lie, I almost banned you but you are here to learn and I get that. I wasn't born knowing everything or having thought out all the questions. Hell I still haven't figured it all out yet! Ask around, these boys won't lie to you.
What is a Prepper by GAPatriot (http://straightprep.com/forum/index.php?topic=1152.0) This is a good place to start buddy and don't worry about us and our hardass rap, it's how we show love. :P

First off, Welcome Aboard Tony. Now, when I read your first thread, all I could think was, "Whoa". I couldn't even hear you talk, and you seemed to be going 90 mph. First, some of us, I imagine, would eat what we had to, to survive. And I know that we would fight to the death to protect our loved ones. Those are extremes that I hope none of us ever have to face. In between, is a HUGE amount of knowledge to take in. There are SO many aspects to prepping, and there is a wealth of knowledge here in this forum. You sound pretty young. Am I correct? Nothing wrong with that, in a lot of ways, that's good. You have drive and ambition. But now you need to soak up all the info you can. You would be a lot more prepared. You sound like a good guy, just a little rambunctious. My advice? Slow down, get your feet wet, acclimate to the water. A lot of good people here. Again, Welcome Aboard!

Oh God here we go again with the wolf BS.
Look gents. Be realistic. If slaying some random fucker meant feeding your kid you would.
I'm so tired of this sheep dog BS. Its not realistic.

Ha. +1 Reaver.
BTW idk how people here feel about this, but I will be shipping to boot camp(Marines) in January.
Parris Island or San Diego? All I can tell you is stay the hell away from a little thing called P.E.B. If you have any questions about training I'll be glad to help. I lived a year at Parris Island.

How about your neighbor? How about your local pastor? Point is, going round slaying random fuckers to feed the kid is a horrible strategy. Exhausting all other strategies, one might come to this point eventually, but it is hardly the starting point that it was implied earlier in this thread. If your doing it right, then that choice never has to be realized.

Thats not the point. The point is to prepare the best you can so you never have to.
I might be able to rob a bank but i choose to work instead. As do you.

As do I? Yes of course. And I do not advocate ( Amon Amarth - The Persuit of Vikings ) to start with. I agree as a starting point its a fucked plan.
BUT if it comes too it. There should be no hesitation. If there is. I question your parenting.

Humans will do all sorts of horrific things when forced to. Were just animals with a shit ton of society brainwashing. Once were forced to ignore these mental barriers the sky is the limit. But theres really no need to discuss this. It dosent help anyone to know they are capable of ripping some ones wind pipe out with their bare hands. If it comes down to it people will do as they must. If they are incapable of doing these things then reading posts about how others think they could do these things wont have any effect on their own mental capabilities.
My point is theres nothing to be gained from this kind of talk. There is however much to be lost when we plant the seed of this option on the forum. It can only do harm.

What happened here, we were doing so well? Tempers flared, warnings were issued, people laughed, people cried, and then they began to give some sound advice to our new member. Reaver!(http://www.sherv.net/cm/emo/angry/enraged-smiley-emoticon.gif) (http://www.sherv.net/enraged-emoticon-3368.html)
Note: I'm not actually angry. I just figured out where I can get codes for new emoticons and I'm using every available opportunity to do so :D

Welcome Tonyroc.
Just a few words of wisdom that I sometimes give new members...
> I suggest you lurk a bit to see how the flow goes. After reading your first post, I see that you jumped into the pond before first
seeing how deep the water was. This will save you from getting butt hurt in the future
> Before you post a question do a search. There are many years of great info in the archives. The search tab is up to the left of
the screen between the Help and Profile tab
> PLEASE do not ask, "What is better an AR or AK?" That is a sure sign that you may be a troll or worst a DHS stooge
> Never write items on a forum that you don't want used against you in a court of law down the pike.
Again welcome to in my mind, a premier forum. [URL=http://www.smileyvault.co

Yep, just replied under my thread in weapons. Thanks again! :)
