I had my phone account with Verizon and it was a hard wired land line that I was happy with. I decided that I wanted a Verizon Jetpack(Hotspot) because dialup internet sucked. I went to the Verizon store and told them what I wanted and they told me that I couldn't buy the Jet Pack unless I disconnected my landline and bought their wireless box which talks to the nearest cell tower. Well I fell for the BS and paid $300 for it. OK, it works just fine but I also have to pay $14 a month extra for equipment protection. OK, I got the Jet Pack with the UNLIMITED DATA package. Well, after I use up 15 Gigabytes, it starts to throttle back on my internet speed and the more I use it, the more it throttles me back until I can hardly use the internet. Well today I got a notice in the mail that that 3G phone unit will no longer work after Jan 1, 2023 and I need to replace it with their latest and greatest 5G unit. OK, so I drive to town and tell them what I need and ask how much they are going to charge me. They said the unit would be free but I had to pay $5.20 tax. OK, no problem. I whipped out my wallet to pay the $5.20 in cash and they said they couldn't accept cash so I tried to write them a check but they said they couldn't accept that either. I had to use a Debit or Credit Card, period. Well I was pissed but I used my credit card. At this point I asked them just what the Hell did they do when a customer didn't have a Debit or Credit card? They said that the customer would just be out of luck. I figured that while I was pissing and moaning about the way they do business, I questioned the original manner in which they forced me to buy the damned wireless phone service or they wouldn't sell me the Jet Pack. The guy said that they were two separate services and I didn't have to buy the wireless device. That's when I said, "OH, so Verizon defruaded me when they forced me to buy the wireless device and disconnect my landline". The guy said, "Well I didn't work here back then and we don't do that". Anyway, I told the guy that I was sick and tired of them throttling back my speed after 15 gigs, he put me on the telephone with someone to talk to them about changing that. I told the guy that I didn't give rat how much it cost, but I want a package that would not throttle back after 15 Gigs. He said he could give me 150 gigs before throttling me back and it would cost $60 a month more. I said, Sign me up". After jumping through about a dozen hoops on my computer I finally got it to work. At first, I got nothing but the slow internet and then I decided to turn off the Jet Pack, wait about a minute and turn it back on and let it reboot. BAM!! Succes. While I was there, I noticed that VERIZON's Cell Phone service cost from $40 to $80 a month and possibly more. The guy asked me if I had a cell phone and I whipped out my smartphone and he asked if it was VERIZON. I said "Hell No!" I pay $7 a month prepaid and it'll do everything your phones will do. To say the least, I've had a very trying day but I got what I wanted and now I just have to decide if I want to notify the FCC or FBI about the fraud they perpetraited on me when I bought the Jet Pack.
