Title: Most Interesting WSJ Report
Post by: Nemo on August 11, 2017, 11:47:30 PM
on new conservatism and new liberalism.  Well enough worth the read to click over there.  And too interesting to bring it all in chunks.

But a good tease is below.  Its what liberalism is all about and the bad things of Reagan small govt conservatism.

Quote
Ronald Reagan almost single-handedly destroyed the New Deal vision of America that used to guide us. Franklin Roosevelt had pictured a place where citizens were joined in a collective enterprise to build a strong nation and protect each other. The watchwords of that effort were solidarity, opportunity and public duty. Reagan pictured a more individualistic America where everyone would flourish once freed from the shackles of the state, and so the watchwords became self-reliance and small government.

Reagan was horrible, wasn't he?

Sorry I can't open your link. I will look for it in MrsMac's hard copy of the WSJ however just a quick comment.

I may be off a % or 2 here but I believe that 70% of the Federal budget is entitlements today. So it doesn't matter if Mr. Reagan or Mr. Trump wanted small government - And we all know that Trump doesn't want smaller government - It would not be possible.

Once you have an entitlement you gotz one for ever. Case in point - The Affordable Car Act will never go away.

Grizz, Mr. Trump is Progressive Lite.

As an example he wants to start a new entitlement for Child Care.  Here (https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/elections/2016/09/13/donald-trump-child-care-ivanka-trump/90297170/)is a link. He also was in favour of rewriting the Affordable Care Act rather than 100% eliminating it. Then replacing it with another government program.

There are other examples.

With that written, I am not anti-Trump by any means. 80% of his policies and direction I agree with.
