I had an interesting experience at our local bank near the Redoubt recently.
MrsMac and I had sold some bonds from our retirement. It had snowed three days straight so rather than drive 45 miles through the snow to the bank that we do 90% of our business through, I took the check to my local bank. Well the young teller went NUTZ!
She looked at the check then me. Then back at the check and then me. She then asked for ID. I told her "no" and I just stared at her.
She excused herself and walked over to the head teller who looked at the check and then at me and then called the bank manager.
The bank manager came out of her office and went behind the tellers counter. There was a short discussion between the three ladies. The bank manager looked at the check then at me. So I walked over to this little ad hoc committee of three and asked, "what's up?" I contunued, "If it wasn't for the snow I would have deposited the check in my regular bank - So what gives?"
The bank manager assured me that nothing was wrong only that I would not be able to withdraw any of the funds for 7-10 business days. I said, "yeah Ok...So what's the problem?"
All three just starred at me and I asked, "AND?" I was a bit loud and it seemed to jar them from their stare.
My first teller and I walked back to our window and she proceeded to lecture me that the money would not be available for 7-10 business days. "Yeah I got that" I told her. She then went and printed something that she wanted me to fill out.
I explained to her that I didn't have the time to fill out any paperwork and if the bank would like me to close my account I will do so PRONTO.
She told me that I didn't need to fill out the paperwork now I could take it, fill it out at my leisure and return it later.
I took the paperwork (What ever it was) ripped it up in front of her. Thanked her. Turned on by heels and on the way out of the bank deposited the ripped up paperwork in the trash can.
By the way...All of the moneys deposited was available in three business days.
What was that all about?
Post Script: I went into my local bank to deposit a check that my brother had sent me for a purchase I made for him. Wouldn't you know it, I got my favorite teller AGAIN! She was so nervous that she screwed up the printing of my receipt several times. I smiled, thanked her and went on my way. I think she has the hots for me
