Well now it looks like the mid Atlantic and New England regions are in the path for some heavy snow starting ~ midnight tonight.

The local SKYWARN NOAA has released a statement predicting 12-16" for Tuesday and another 3-5" for Wednesday. So all in all about 15-21" in a 48 period. Temps highs will be in the teens and winds gusting to 25 Mph. At 25 Mph, it will be just short of "blizzard" conditions. I listened to two nets last night - TAPRN and Survival nets. Both started out as different topics but came around to this Snow event.

For those who are interested, the Survival Net is going to have a SnowPocalypse net Tuesday night at 2200 hrs located on 3.995 Mhz or 3995 Khz on your Sort Wave radio. I will probably check-in at 2100 hrs.

With that all written, if you are in the path of this storm, post through-out the day with updates on this subject line.

My area is calling for rain (80%) with a potential low temp of 32F between about 0400 and 0700 on 14Mar17.  I will get some popcorn and watch the Weather Channel a fair bit tomorrow.

The weather service is predicting 12-18" for my area.  Lucky me, I have to snowmobile to the top of a 3500' mountain first thing Tuesday morning.  I'm not looking forward to it....

Our weatherman is calling for 45F tomorrow with rain and snow showers with 34F Wed. I hope another neighbor's tree doesn't come crashing down in my yard again, it's supposed to be very windy :chuky:

I had to work on a Forest Ranger radio repeater.  It was an interesting trip up the mountain.  Because of the warm weather we had previously we had an ice base, which wouldn't have been a problem if the snowmobile track had studs.  I had to occasionally walk up, wearing microspikes, while my Forest Ranger partner drove the sled wide open.  He said it was one of the most dangerous trips he had ever encountered.  The summit of the mountain was mostly covered in ice, as the snow mostly blows off, except where it piles up next to scrub pines. Anyways, mission accomplished!  And when I got back to the office I was released early due to the inclement weather.  Looks like we have about 12 inches thus far, under a blizzard warning until 8pm Wednesday. And snow showers are forecasted until Thursday morning.  Meanwhile my goose is sitting outdoors, enjoying the snow, along with my dog.  Animals!

Well, we had a skim of sleet/freezing rain for an hour or so this morning.  0900 it was 35F.  1300 clouds were gone and sun was out.  Temps up to about 43F and some roads are a bit wet but most are dry.  No slipping or sliding or wipers.

Started snowing here at 0800.  It was a very heavy snow that built up to approx 5inches when it tapered off at apprx 1200.  We had about 1/2 hr of clear when the wind picked up significantly then the hard rain came in. It has been raining since but has lightened up significantly since about 1530.  Temps are holding in the high 30s.  I just hope the temp stay up or the cement like slushwill be  bear to deal with if it freezes.   That said just 20 miles inland of me they are at about 18" with more still coming.

WOW Jackalope! Sounds like a fun (NOT) ride.

At 1630 Hts it was 30.3" and still coming down. Like you Jackalope, blizzard warning's here till 2000 Hrs Wednesday night. Counties in NYS are shutting down and if you are on the road and it is not an emergency fines are being given out and they are impounding your vehicle. That's NY for you.

If anybody wants to hop on a net tonight there is one planned for 2200 Hrs on 3.995 Mhz being put on by Survivalnet. I will probably jump on at 2000 Hrs and exit just after 2200 Hrs. The snow is so fine and it is cold that there is no buildup on my dipole antenna.

Spoke to a lovely young lady earlier from Edinburgh, Scotland. Apparently the SnowPocalypse is making their Telly stations. She was so thrilled to reach someone in the states who was living it. She told me she couldn't wait to tell her Mum.

Well the wind is starting to pick up and the barometer is still dropping. It started out at 1015.9 hPa at 0630 Hrs and it is 1001.8 hPa at 1710 Hrs local. The temp is moving between 18 and 20 F.

CJS06, spoke to Dave Stewart in Tiverton a little while ago and he told me it was MISERABLE! Sleet, rain and wind. I am glad I am not there.

73's till my next report...

Well my last report at 2100 hrs is 33.6" for the day.

It is blowing 10 Mph pretty steadily with a few gusts to 20 Mph+ and lightly snowing.

I am on 3.995 Mhz however there is a group rag chewing. The impromptu net is officially set for 2200 hrs. Once these guys stop kibitzing I will start to call CQ.

Wishing you all a great evening.

Johny, watch out for snow static.  Seriously, when it's snowing heavily a static charge can build up on your antenna wires, which can damage your transceiver.  It can be almost as bad as a lightning discharge.  I had a IC-718 that was damaged that way.  It's one of the reasons I leave the transmission line disconnected from my radio, unless I'm actually using it.

I'm on vacation for the rest of week, so I can sleep in a little bit.  My biggest concern is how I'm going to get to the chicken coop to feed my girls in the morning.  It's either dig a pathway through butt deep snow, or find my snowshoes and go that way.  Either way, it's not going to be fun hauling feed and water through the snowdrifts.  Life in the north country!

Thx for the info Jackalope.

Well at 2100 hrs we had 33" of white stuff. This morning at 0730 Hrs I measured again and it had snowed 1 1/2" over night. So that makes a total snow fall for 29 1/2 hrs 34.5".

Snowing like hell here right now and it continues.

I will start to shovel a path to the road and work on digging out the truck. Our township road has not been plowed as yet so it really doesn't matter anyway. The NY county just north of me is STILL in a state of emergency Which basically means, if you are caught out on the road in a vehicle, you will be fined and vehicle impounded.

Well time to get off my butt and get to work.

Well, we've got around 30" and it's still snowing.  The local paper is saying around 36" in many locations, as of last evening. http://www.adirondackdailyenterprise.com/news/local-news/2017/03/some-schools-close-dismiss-early-for-storm/   I spent 2 1/2 hours digging a path out to the chickens.  After a while I ended up just wading through the snow because I was too tired to shovel, but first I let my dog bound her way in that direction, which helped some.  Now on to the driveway...

Jackalope, that sucks! "...You're a better man than I am, Gunga Din."

I would have used snow shoes and just beaten down a path. BUTTTTT, of course, that path would turn to ice in a couple of days so you are doing the right thing digging a path.

Well I got off my duff this AM and dug a path to the un-plowed road. Well it must have been plowed at one point as there was only a foot or so on the road.

My neighbor came over with his 95 HP New Holland tractor with a front loader and made a spot for me to move my truck to. Just got done cleaning it off and then moving it.

MrsMac is bugging me to take her to town to have her hair done. WTF? After telling her no 3 or 4 times, I just gave her the keys to the truck and told her "Knock yourself out." Then retired to the ham shack.

The powers to be in my county here in PA have requested that non essential vehicles stay off the road. The county 2 miles north of me in NY, is in a state of emergency until Midnight tonight. If you are caught out there and your travels are not essential, the police will impound your vehicle. I heard on a NY net this morning that police were giving out tickets to pedestrians walking in the street. Apparently they are hindering the cities plows. Man o'man I am glad I do not live in the Peoples Republic of New York!  :gunner:

When my internet gets above 1.0 mbs I will post some pictures.

Turns out we got cold.  Way cold.  Highs in the lower 30s and lows in upper single to low double digits.  It will be warming and this weekend back into the low 60s or so.

I can stay inside under a blanket with a heavy shirt for a day or 3.

It's still snowing here!  The local paper is reporting over 40 inches thus far.  I ended up shoveling almost six hours.  However, I got lucky with my driveway, because a neighbor showed up with his new tractor which has both a bucket and a snowblower.  After I finally got done I settled down for a little nap.  It looks like I'll be shoveling again in the morning.  What a way to spend a vacation...I think the temperature got up to around 11 today.

To be in the mid-40s today, mostly sunny.  Was real cold (teens) last night so wife and I had to sleep naked again.  Share body heat.  You all let your minds run elsewhere.

Mid 60s by the weekend.  I have an Action Pistol match on Sunday so thats good.  Virginia* (yes south of Mason/Dixon line) is pretty nice.
