Alright ive watched about 3/4 of the footage and im not too impressed. I was hoping for a more advanced type thing... bassically everything aside from the PDA program BS i could have done that video as the instructor myself. id be willing to bet they are going to come out with another DVD with more advanced stuff... now dont get me wrong there is a lot of good info for a new shooter in there... the intro/zeroing video being the most helpful for them. but they bassically filmed 4 dudes learning the fundamentals of a rifle while having access to way more technology then they are ready for and then after they zero'd their rifles they went right out to 1 mile and chased bullets around the hillside until eventually they made hits. there was nothing precision about that. and a couple of those guys shouldnt have even progressed passed the 100m line because they couldnt even get 3 shots to group... there was clearly a lot of shooter error going on.

For a more advanced shooter the Video will bassically be a refresher course. for a beginner theres a lot to be learned BUT.. i also noticed a lot of times when some one who didnt already know what was being said could get confused or take piece of data the instructor was giving about his own specific setup and assume it as universal. So be aware of that and make sure you confirm any info you think you got from the video.

I agree Ken, there is a lot of refresher type stuff in there for those that already have some knowledge of the subject. For those that are just getting into it,I think they did a good job and the vids are a valuable tool.  I think they had to start somewhere, and hopefully there will be another set of vids thats more advanced.
I enjoyed his breakdown on fundamentals, although it was review type material, there were things that I took away from it that I will be willing to try next time at the range. Always looking for an edge, I try not to take anything as gospel, you just got to try too find what works for you.

Yep Yep... the main bummer i think is when they decided to use that PDA thing to base all of there shooting off of. 99% of shooters got kicked to the curb when they used that as their foundation for the entire class. they did show some basic math formulas in case yu dont have the PDA but they never even covered how to get a range card going for your specific load and rifle. they said "well you just type stuff into this PDA and it will tell you what your velocity is and all that crap" so at that very second everyone without a PDA was left scratching their head on how to get to the next step with the data for their load at given ranges.

Yes its true a ballistic calculator is a mathematical estimation and is only as good as the data you put in. but thats why you put in the best data you can and then go confirm it in the field.

they should have left it as simple as possible like all their other courses. the only electronic used should have been a range finder and maybe touch on the use of the kestrol. they never showed how to read wind with the mirage really...the guy was just reading it for them and telling them how to adjust.

I think this DVD lacks so much because the magpul guys left it up to another guy to create it because they werent knowledgable. i hope the magpul guys work hard to master this system on their own and then come up with the "Magpul" way to do things. and then make a new DVD course on the subject.

Yeah all great points Ken. Looking back on it some things were extremely low level, while others were over the top, "PDA" like you stated.
Another thing that I thought they missed the boat on was controlled breathing. I dont think that they hit the subject with everything they could have. They talked about normal respiratory pause but they never went into any real detail on breathing methods, something that is extremely important and the basis for being consistent in long range shooting. A lot of things like that require graphs to get the point across to provide a visual for the student, its not like he couldnt have thrown something up on his pickup truck that he was using for a grease board, lol.
I like your idea I would like to see Mag Pul put there own spin on it later down the road. I would also keep an eye here as well http://haleystrategic.com/store/media.php . Looks like Haley has left Mag Pul, and he already has adaptive handgun and carbine vids out, maybe he'll have a rifle vid coming down the pike as well.

Maybe we should start a separate topic on all the things that should have been in the Precision Rifle DVD,lol.
Heres some decent info on reading wind/windage along with some other info as well on the subject matter.http://www.sniperflashcards.com/windreading.php

Thanks for pointing this DVD out. Skimmed through it quickly and was impressed by the high quality of the material. Is the it the end all, be all? Nope, but definitely worthwhile regardless, imo.

yeah exactly there were so many things they could have gone in depth on for quite a long time but they just barely touched on. basically they missed the boat on a lot of areas and kind of did a half assed attempt at explaining the entire subject. i understand its a tough topic to get an in depth explination in its entirety because ive attempted it myself and even in my YT vids have taken 20 mins to explain what you need in a simple range card as far as data and i sensed that in this video from the instructor aswell where he had all this info in his mind but its hard to get it all out in a short class. so in short it was just poorly planned out and they could have focused more on more important areas instead of showing three newbs trying to hit steel at 1 mile which in all reality is retarded for all but one of the calibers used in the course. ill keep  my eye out for other branches off of the magpul brand vids thanks for the link.

No problem.   [URL=http://www.smileyvault.co

You can also find their other overpriced DVDs there as well, among others.   Use your imagination.
