What Chris said.
Also I am always leery of a pitch that tells folks to "shoot like a insert whatever the author believes his audience ought to find aspirational"
Nothing wrong with Marines but
a) CQB is not the nonplusultra many laymen to think it is... its a tiny slice of infantry skill..I can think of many more useful skills laymen ought to focus on first... luckily that's some basics seem whats being done here....
b) Army Infantry almost certainly trains it more then Marine Infantry since Marine Infantry spends more time on long range shooting. It's not so many years ago that Marines carried nearly all M16A4 while Army carried nearly all M4 and M4A1 Carbine which are more suitable to CQB (again not that CQB is something that so aspirational in my mind if u havent trained some other things first.) Not that the USMC doesnt often do it when needed.. but still this makes the headline a bit odd to me.
c) The drills are good general drills... There is however a kernel of truth in the CQB reference.. All the drills are done from the standing and involve no use of, or working, cover or changing position. CQB is generally done from a upright positon like these drills.
There is nothing wrong with these drills but as general defense training they skip important elements. (switching to different firing positions , working the edge of cover etc) that I generally believe ought to be part of defensive training.
But for CQB it's less of a handicap to skip them since CQB happens from an upright position most often.
d) Just as a reminder CQB is actually distinct from MOUT ( a term that has come out of fashion but is still relevant IMHO) but I am too tired right now (different time zone) to explain the difference.. Maybe Chris will pick it up or i will come back later
