is now the best book i have read. it is a great read, kind long 600 pages. i burned through it, i finished it in just under a week, i am warning you guys right now if you start reading it time disappears before you know it, its 0300 and you still want to keep reading.

quick synops of the book..

a texas subdivion bands together after an EMP attack. they were not prepared when the EMP happend so it brings a good sence of realism and 'what would really happen' feel to it. they train and develop defenses for there community on the fly. they defend against attacks on the subdivison and other ambushes in the town and on highways and such.

basically read the book lol. i see it for $20 at gun shows all the time.

and $20 at amazon

I also agree that it's an excellent book. However, it is extremely unrealistic considering the economic opportunities afforded to the protagonists. Other than that, it seems to be an excellent work.

I read the book when it was circulating on the internet. I forget who but someone from the former MrL&L forum sent it to me with the stipulation that I buy a copy when it is released.

I to have since bought a copy through Amazon. I bought a used one for around $10- or so.

Since I purchased the book, my wife read it and she has been passing it around her circle of friends. Got it back a few weeks ago and loaned it to the wife of the farmer across the road from our BOL. She loved it.

All in all, like and fictitious book about TEOTWAWKI, it is fictitious. However, I get many knew idea's which some I have put into action and many still on the to do list. Bottom-line I enjoyed the book.

That book is on my list. I would also suggest One second after by william forstchen. Very good read. It too is about a EMP attack but its based in a community near ashville NC. I site it because of the steps the community took to preserve itself. I really liked this book. Ill prolly get lights out this weekend.

Here is an interview to the author, who is member of getoffthex forum

Hey Rah45 sorry I don't understand bro, what opportunities do you mean? Karate man was a pretty normal guy without much preps to begin with.

I think you are confusing it with Patriots where the main characters had millions to expend in a retreat, personal planes, armored stuff, cars just in case etc etc.

No, I own Patriots and have Lights Out on my computer. They both have that element. I don't want to ruin it for anyone, so here it is:

SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT!

The fact that he doesn't have much is realistic. The "opportunity" I'm describing is his magical boss who just happens to be one of those psychotic people who preps in order to restore order in his own private manner, ruling as a dictator. Seriously, no one is going to have a boss who gives them that much money in silver coin, gives them that much fuel, and doesn't think twice about it. That gave the characters in the book a huge edge. Was it better than Patriots? I think it was. I think it's the best WROL-scenario fiction I've read thus far. However, to say that it was realistic regarding their economic opportunities would be false. Nobody is going to magically get all that hard currency, and, furthermore, that many people aren't going to accept hard currency. In Lights Out, they were spending silver everywhere and everyone was willing to take it. In real life, people aren't necessarily going to hand over valuable goods for pieces of metal. Precious metals are only of value if there is an established economic trade system in which one ounce of a precious metal is recognized to represent "x" value of a commodity. Without that, you're back to trading what you can use for what he can use.

Ohh yes, now I remember, totally agree with you about it...

I read that the printed version has some modifications compared to the first electronic version that was free, dunno if that changed, I have the paper version waiting for me to verify it :)
