What would you and your neighbors do if the power went out and it did not ever come back on?

What would you do if an EMP attack happened in the middle of the winter and you suddenly were not able to heat your home any longer?

What would you do if all the electronics in your car got fried and you simply could not drive anywhere?

What would you do if all the supermarkets in your area shut down because food could not be transported across the country anymore?

What would you do if you were suddenly unable to call your family and friends for help?

What would you do if you were suddenly unable to get the medicine that you needed?

Hard questions..

When I sit down to address a problem I use Occam's Razor as my primary logic.  Franciscan friar Father William of Ockham said  "entities must not be multiplied beyond necessity."

I have a manual well pump because I am interested in having water first and foremost. I'm always looking for a PTO pump to put onto my EMP proof (thank you Ford Motor Co.) 8n tractor but that multiplies beyond necessity doesn't it? Now instead of working the handle on my pump I need to have fuel, oil, seals, hose, filters, tires and all that other stuff. Water is the goal, homemade hand pump down the well is the cheapest easiest solution.

You see how Occam's Razor led me to a EMP proof solution without applying EMP survival to the guildlines? Give it a try and you will find that ultimately this whole prepping thing boils down to the simplest technologies not because they are the best but because they are within the means of the average prepper not only to acquire but to maintain. Sure GPS units work really good but can you fix them when they quit on you? I'm not even sure I can change the batteries in mine. That old map and compass doesn't always work right (operator error) but she sure is cheap and there is nothing about that level of technology that we can't maintain.

Ultimately I don't see the EMP prepping like most folks, they want to "fix" a truck. I want to steal a horse.

They want isolated solar set ups for lights and power. I want a root cellar and a candle.

I want shit that works that I can fix.

p.s. one second after was a great read and so is http://endoftheamericandream.com/

I'll play.

What would you and your neighbors do if the power went out and it did not ever come back on?

Party like it was 1899, baby. It would suck, until everyone got into the groove, but we can manage it. Build a forge so we can work steel, build our own boats/carriages, grow/hunt/gather our food. Also, I'd probably get some people assigned to jobs. For example, some would be hunters, others would fish, some would forage for wild edibles, some collect water, all that shit.

What would you do if an EMP attack happened in the middle of the winter and you suddenly were not able to heat your home any longer?

Wood burning stove. I have one, just not installed. Simple enough to do. And those who don't have wood burning for heat, can always move in with others that do. Extra hands for work, plus, strength in numbers.

What would you do if all the electronics in your car got fried and you simply could not drive anywhere?

Don't drive anyway now anyway. Boats ftw? lol

What would you do if all the supermarkets in your area shut down because food could not be transported across the country anymore?

Already have some stocked up, as do most people since we're a rural town. Whatever is left in the stores can be distributed to those who don't have as much as others, or kept in a stock, in which people can trade other goods/services for those products.

What would you do if you were suddenly unable to call your family and friends for help?

Most of them live here, those that don't will either stay in place, or try and get here.

What would you do if you were suddenly unable to get the medicine that you needed?

If it's something that'll keep a person alive, they may have a month's supply. That should be enough time for me and others to figure out how to get them meds, or find a nature kind.

What would you do if your debit cards and credit cards simply did not work any longer and you could not get any of your money out of the bank?

I try to keep some cash on hand, but if we're talking an EMP, it won't matter after 3-4 days when people realize that money is worthless. So in the time frame I'd try to spend what cash I have on extra food/gear.

What would you do if all of these things happened all at once?

See above, lol.

I went to a Preppers conference over the summer and the author of one second after William Fortune was there and did a presentation and during the question and answer portion after all the research he has done the severity or impact it will have on us isnt known he said in one study the emp was so powerful all power lines and electric wires in a home could catch on fire on the extreme side of the spectrum. Southernprepper1 and Engineeer775 were there also and were selling Faraday bags of which i bought several hopefully if it ever happens it wont be on the extreme end

ok frosty ill play too. this gonna be slopppy im on my phone right now. i would use the inoperation of all electronics as an indicator of emp as i may not witness the eveent myself. i would emediatley begin talking to my neighbors to begin organizing a community plan of action. water would be job number one. find and rig well pumps andpurifiers. take stock of availible supplies. beans bullets baindaids and water.                                                                                    security. i would want to organize an initial security and scavenging operations. after identifying what we needed and basic perimetes were established i would want to send out scavenging and recon parties. gatering intell on our imediate surroundings would be a priority as well. and perhaps opening lines of communications with other communities. tools and talent. i would want to find as many resources within my community. such as older vehichels that didnt have computer sytems to operate. and find the mcgyvers in the

the community. get them the materials and resources so they can utilize them to their fullest potential. i guess that would be some of my initial actions. but the senario will most likley last a long time so  i would just keep doing whatever i could to increase survivability.

1. Generate my own power as needed, primarily for operating power tools.
2.Wood heat, already got it.
3. Go to the toolbox on the back of my truck, take out the point ignition distributor and coil that are there for just such an occasion and install.
4.I have food and seed stored for this, also I have fruit and nut trees.
5. I have some antibiotics, sutures, first aid supplies put up already, and besides my still makes more medicine than I should be taking already.

Good questions that should already be answered. Left out refrigeration though so I'll throw this project out for all of you who want a frosty mug for your beverage of choice. google "homemade crosley icy ball"
