Junk Silver (Coins)
« on: May 05, 2017, 09:37:30 AM »
MrsMac and I are planning on buying some junk silver coins.

If you have already made a purchase of junk silver, please share with the group who you dealt with for your purchase. There are a lot dealers out there.

the pickings have gotten a bit thinner but;
i've gone to banks near casinos and asked for a few hundred dollars in coins (quarters and half dollars) and hand sorted them to pull out the silver.  most are from slot machine winnings.
I got that idea when i was working at a video arcade in the 1990's.

Most casino's now are electronic. You put paper money in and get a payout slip if you win which you take to the cashier.
In principle, no less than in practice, socialism is the ideology of thieves and tyrants.

@JoJo, you bring up an interesting point.  How much longer will people even recognize silver as money :)
even paper currency is going away fast.

I check my pocket change everyday. Yep, I find one every now then. Not often enough though. I started buying one ounce .99 fine Silver. The price isn't 100% stable but it will range from $16 to$19 an ounce. Coin Silver is .925 fine. I buy it when I can afford it and when hyper inflation kicks in, I'll be rich. Not really, but I will be able to buy something to eat. No matter what has happened throughout history, precious metals have always had value.

I have some of the Silver Eagles.  But I have been recently considering getting decided to get some half Eagles and smaller sizes.  A bit tough to haggle when the only coin thing you have to barter with is 1oz coins.

I really agree junk silver is a good idea.  One company I have dealt with in the past and has a general good price/reputation is Monex.  See link below for 90% junk silver coin.  The live price through them is linked below.

If you need a second magazine, its time to call in air support.

God created Man, Col. Sam Colt made him equal, John Moses Browning turned equality to perfection, Gaston Glock turned perfection into plastic fantastic junk.
