He's a modestly noteable rodent from the marmota monax clan who lives in PA.  Mostly known for his season forecasting skills.

My dad was part of the Inner Circle many many years ago.  But I never heard the name Sowerby attached.  I am aware of and have held for honor and reverence all three, Phil, Phyllis and Phelicia. I have heard the discussions in Groundhogese but do not understand the language and cannot translate.  I have stood on Gobblers Knob and recited the poem of reverence in his honor.  But I have never been able to make the dawn rising and prediction.  That is a part of plans for next year.

You should be aware of his southeast advisor, General Beauregard Lee who covers the southern flank and advises Phil on those conditions.  Beauregard covers that simply because of the tropical storm/hurricane possibilities in the southeast U.S.  He has tried a general spring forecast and is relatively inaccurate.

There are several others who claim to be involved but those are wannabee imposters.  Give them no mind.  They are noted below.

But you are correct.  It is coming.  Groundhog Day, the greatest holiday of the year.

All Hail the Mighty Groundhog
Se'er of Se'ers
Prognosticator of Prognosticators
The Truly Great and Wonderous
Punxsutawney Phil
Hail!
Hail!
Hail!

Everyone should arise at dawn, face the general direction of Punxsutawney Pa and recite the poem above in his honor.  Getting toward Pittsburgh is close enough.  If you don't know that direction, get a map and compass.

So get up at dawn, look toward Gobblers Knob, bow and genuflect and recite the invocation.

Or just think good things and tell your friends about it, make it out to be the Greatest Holiday of the year, recite the invocation and have fun with it.  Make a big enough thing of it you have fun and some folks think you have gone round the bend.

Take a compass with you so you can be sure you face the right direction, making big doings out of it.  Throw in a bit of bowing and maybe some scraping.  This can be one really fun holiday.

Eat out, impress the waitress server.   Get her them to invocate with you or teach them.
