Title: IT guy needed
Post by: JoJo on June 29, 2017, 08:26:35 AM
I need a question answered about De-Fragmenting my PC. I have Norton on my PC and I have been running the de-frag for 44 1/2 hours and it is still running. That seems like an extremely long time. Anyone have any answer/reason why it is taking so long?

if your drive is more than about 70% full there isn't alot of room to move files around - or the drive had a bazillion fragmented files and it is taking time to go through all the passes.

how many gigabytes and how much free space does your system have on the hard drive?  about how long has it been since you defragged the drive?
are you running anti-virus software?

80% full maybe more. My computer crashed about two years ago, none since then. I had a fast de-frag program that I lost during the crash and haven't done one since. My computer is about 8 years old. Apop up window said it runs every Wednesday at 4am.
I'll run it again until it finishes this time. Thanks for the help.

JoJo, get a couple of memory sticks and back up your computer. Then erase anything you do not use daily/weekly.
