Is It Me Or Am I hearing...
« on: September 08, 2022, 10:34:06 AM »
Okay we can all agree that I am a bit crazy; Specifically, in the realm that bad times are coming. Bad times in the area of shortages of food, heat, etcetera and inflation if you can find that food or heat. With that written, is it my craziness or am I hearing and reading more and more in the MSM about stockpiling food, supplies, and saving for a rise in all energy costs?

For you folks that read alternative media or watch different TV channels than Fox, are you too seeing an increase in concern and advise for this coming 2022/23 winter?

As a side note, the August CPI will be out next Tuesday. Based on the reduction in petrol prices (minimal diesel prices), I suspect that the August CPI will be down from July's 8.5% - Probably in the high 7's.

I am seeing and hearing more people talking about prepping and one noting Sept is National Preparedness Month.  Normal, blind, looking straight ahead, never considering no canned goods at the grocery store people.

Basically overheard that a time or 3 in the past month sitting in restaurants and the Nat Prep Month was at a local minor league ball game in the seats.

Yes Johnny, as usual, the MSM is about 6 months to a year behind on reporting things. I'm hearing a bit of this and a bit of that concerning the economy and preparing for bad times.

Now, on to Nemo. I'm not hearing a great deal of talk from the normalcy bias crowd but I am noticing that people are starting to complain about not finding what they want in the grocery stores.

The best way that I've found to tell if people are starting to feel the pinch is to go out to eat at OUTBACK and when you don't have to wait to be seated, that's a strong sign. Also, when they bring you the check and you have a heart attack, that tells you something also.

There is an Outback here.  Its rarely full.  The Olive Garden is the wait time place.

JM,
You are not crazy. I see the same things you do coming down the pike. I have been building reserves for some years telling myself that times will get tough.
Have built up everything I think I need and am in a good position. Have recently added a ford excursion to the mix and just bought a second one to equip for what comes. Ordered a new Ford f350 in March and Ford cannot say when it will arrive. That is why I have gone old school and will cancel the f350

Made a relatively rare grocery shopping trip yesterday for to fill in on a bunch of "ancillary" items.
"Safeway", big chain.    And the bulk staples like beans and rice had empty slots.   The pasta was also anemic.   Soups weren't filled in.
Maybe I'm reading too much into it but I felt then that these were indicators.
