I saw a fatal accident last night.

Hey everyone.  I haven't been too active on here recently because I moved to the sticks and the internet isn't what she used to be.  So imagine my surprise when not one, but 12 emergency vehicle cam down my road last night.

Some 17 year old  kid was out riding his atv and he got into what amounted to a fender bender with a little red chevy s10 pick up truck.  There was no damage to either vehicle, no blood or gore, nothing really to see at all. Except for the young man lying in the road as EMTs worked to revive him.

This kid bumped his atv into a car, hit his head on the front grill, and was dead before he hit the ground.  The helicopter didn't even land, because he was gone.

Keep this in mind my friends.  We postulate enough on here to choke a horse but IRL one bump to the noggin and it can be lights out.  Be safe, be mindful, and keep it real because this is an example of what its really like for us and our goal of surviving and maintaining the quality of life we are lucky to have.

Last Thursday the wife got a call from a guy we had worked with some years ago. His little brother (23 years old) had fallen off a motorcycle while on vacation in Mexico and instead of telling anyone how much pain he was in he took two pills and partied the rest of the night.

Our friend woke up the next morning in their RV next to his brother who had passed in the night.

Michael touched the heart of everyone he ever met and will be deeply missed.

To think of his brother and his best friends carrying his casket to his final resting place breaks my heart.

My brother started working in the oil field last fall. Three weeks ago he was on the deck and the derrick's hand fell and hit my brother on the way down. My brother came out relatively unscathed but the derrick's hand took about 5 minutes to die. My brothers all freaked out. It was his first time watching someone he knew die.  He's not equipped to deal with it and he's having some ptsd like symptoms. We've been talking more in the past week than we've probably talked in the last two years. Unexpected things happen, they can have more than physical symptoms that need to be treated. I'm not talking about you and the Atv kid, just in general.

If you take a look at soldiers, ems, police, and fire services, they almost all exhibit some type of PTSD at one point or another in their career from things that happen to them or things they see happen to other people.  It should be taken into consideration when preparing for disasters and traumatic events. Heard a guy talking in class (and I don't know it's bullshit or not) about how there have been more suicides from ptsd than deaths in Iraq from combat.

in 2010 we lost more vets to suicide than to combat, dont know about the whole war though

One of my good high school buddies died his freshman year in college by falling off of a pick up truck and he bumped the back of his head.

He never complained or sad anything, just partied til he passed out that night.  He never work up, feel into a coma and went brain dead a week or so after.

Head injuries are really serious.  They can kill you fairly reliably. 

Life is indeed very fragile and never take it for granted.
