I am symptomatic.
« on: March 26, 2020, 12:46:21 AM »
Volunteered to help out at a place in OCONUS.

And was very busy doing RNA extraction kits on virus samples and running PCR last week on live patient samples.
Took all the precautions but now I have tell tale symptoms of CORVID19.

Hopefully its just a normal cold as i am blood group A, but that may not be a realistic hope.

In any event this may be a chance to finally lose some weight ;)

Hope all goes well.  Just eat a 20lb bag of onions.  They have lots of quinine in them which is reportedly a big part of the cloroquine which seems to have a very good effect on Wuchan Corona.

And if you need blood, I am A- so I can send you a jar.

If you need a second magazine, its time to call in air support.

Here's hoping you have a mild case!
if you want quinine, i recommend gin and tonic - without the gin, i hate gin :)
get well soon.

Certain blood types are susceptible to certain viruses. Like O type is supposedly more resistant to this virus.

A- here too.

What does blood type have to do with anything?

Blood Groups A + and A - are more susceptible to suffering complications and death from this disease.
About twice as likely as other Blood groups.

The vulnerability to become infected is not affected, meaning they dont get the disease any easier or harder than others.. just if they get it chances are a bit worse for them.

Dayum, 3 of us here are A-.    Only about 7% of Caucasian population is A-.

Either we are special to this place for coming here, or its special to us for causing us to come.

Erick, have you been tested?

Yes,
waiting on results.
However they told me there is a high false negative rate so even if its negative to still stay isolated for the full 14 days.
At the end of 14 days if I was symptom free for the previous 2 then can can go out again.

I believe everyone may a be a bit different.. not every symptom is displayed by every person... but here is my experience:

- It started with an attack of sudden strong tiredness the previous day (Tuesday).. but I didnt associate it with infection simply with having worked a lot previous (which I had). I was in the middle of doing something and felt a sudden and strong urge to lie down and sleep RIGHT NOW.
- then one morning of Wednesday had a single random dry cough in the morning
- Didnt think much of that first cough
- Then my nose started running shortly after.. dindt think of of that either..its not strongly associated with coronavirus.. but was getting suspicious but since I had no fever at all wasnt too worried
- then the dry cough came back and i remebred my fatigue attack the day before... and now i was very suspicious and monitored myself carefully, noticed some mild nausea too.
-Then became dizzy.. still no fever but for me i rarely get any fever at all even with cold + flus... but I do get dizzy instead..
- by the evening of Wednesday was in bad shape. very dizzy, could no longer walk with ease, recurring coughs ( but not all the time.. maybe 3-4 times per hr tops), nose veyr runny. 80-90% loss of sense of taste + smell.. Thought i even detected a shortness of breath when i got up from the bed. So I went from feeling fine Wed morning to in poor shape within just maybe a 10 hour period.
- In all this no fever though.. high fever is when they let u in the hospital
- I am blood group A so thats an additional risk factor for bad progression so I went to bed hoping to get better.
- Next morning no improvement + reported it to my chain of command with morning rollcall (we are telecommuting, no my full time job is not military but its an agency)
- First 1.5 days were not good.. then got consistently better every day until I my symptoms are minimal and I can see i am shaking this thing.

Total disease progression roughly equivalent (with some variation) to a head cold or a minor flu. Except it looks like I am getting through quicker than one of those..
I was tested Friday for both Coronavirus and flu. for Flu = Negative.. Corona virus results not in yet.
