MAGS
« on: June 04, 2022, 02:09:26 AM »
I've mentioned before that I have about 6 families in my local MAG. Well, today, I decided that the blades on my new zero turn mower where too dull to do a decent job of cutting my grass. Two of my MAG members(neighbors) are mechanics and one of them has a really nice shop for working on his Dragster Muscle Car. I saw him cutting his grass with his super big and powerful zero turn mower so I rode mine 3 houses down and pulled up to his garage and asked if he could or would remove my blades so I could sharpen them. He jacked it up and zapped those blades off in no time with his Air Impact driver. Then he sharpened them for me even though I could have done it with my bench grinder. Then he intalled them back on the mower for me. It all took about as long as it would have taken me to just remove one blade using my hand tools. He wouldn't let me pay him for it also. I told him that I usually only sharpen my blades once a year but I was going to start doing what he does. He keeps a sharp set on his mower and he buys a new set of sharp blades every year and keeps them to swap out the old ones. I told him that I would use these for the rest of this season and I'd come back next year and ask him to instal the new set that I was going to buy. Even though he wouldn't let me pay him, I figure that I owe him a favor and I'll help him out with something or other when the SHTF. Before I left, I reminded him that things are getting ready to crash and that he should really consider stocking up on supplies and extra food while it was available and still affordable. Yep, even my MAG members has a certain amount of Normalcy Bias.

Since we have 2 1/4 pigs in the freezer, MrsMac and I have decided not to raise another one with my neighbor this season.

We feed our pigs mostly with past prime food we get for free from a local grocery store and augment that food with pig feed.

Anyway, my neighbor is raising three pigs for his larder. Two will go into the freezer and one will be sold to pay for the two going into the freezer. He picks up a pickup truck of food from the grocery store twice a week. Even though I do not have a pig in the mix this go-around, when he pulls up to his farm, I walk over and help him off-load the pickup.

That is what neighbors are for. By the way, he and his family are part of our small MAG.
