I don't know the actual listed shelf life, but I know it has alot to do with how you store them. If they're stored in a cool dry place they will last much longer than if they're kept in a hot humid place.

In 120 degree heat, you're talking 6 months.  If kept in the 60 degree range, or something close to that, you're talking years.  I can't remember the exact number of years, but its decent.

Its all about at which heat and humidity you store them.

I've had a 10 stored for over 13 years now. Took one to the range with me and well it was still edible just, kinda different tasting.

That's the normal taste.   [URL=http://www.smileyvault.co

Seriously though, just like any long term food storage, cool, dry locations will make them last longer.  Temperature fluctuations don't help either.

Frankly, I belive the "use by" date is just fedgov guidance as there's enough preservatives in an MRE (and many other foods) to make proper storage virtually unlimited.  IMO.
