Hey bro if you make it so I can't come though the door I will come though the wall, keep that in mind when you think about hardening a structure.

I don't plan on hardening my house because I have a giant ass window in the side of our house. Its great for watching birds but it would suck for a defensive Position.

Does anyone have any ideas for securing glass sliding doors?

The only way i really see is putting a sliding steel door that would completely cover the opening on the outside.
I can't think of a good way to lock it from the inside.

You could also put the door on springs on both inward and outward breaching so the door would bounce/pull when hit with a ram or pulled by a truck.
of course "they" could find a way to wedge the door so it doesn't bounce.

Houses aren't really good to try to fortify. Your better off building a bunker if your really worried about goons kicking in your door.

I am not posting this as a slap to any one who wants to harden their home.  I post this as a reasonable alternative for those who cannot afford it.  If you can afford and do actually intend to truly "harden" your home OR you just like to fantasize or brainstorm about it, by all means don't let me stop you from posting about it here.

But the fact is...Unless you intend to go with 360 degree sandbags or 2 foot thick cement walls followed up with steel doors (and don't forget the roof), your home will never be hardened.  And even if you do all of that, it is still likely you could be burned out!

May I suggest an option that is actually feasible to the average person reading this...

With minimum money and effort, 2 or more layers of chain link fencing, properly attached around windows and doors (from the inside) will do a lot to keep out or at least slow down the hordes.  Of course it can be defeated with wire cutters, but they will have to cut it while standing in a hail of lead.  Even the "hook one end of a chain to the fence and the other to the truck bumper" won't necessarily do a complete job of removing the fence for the would be intruders.  The chain will only rip the place(s) of the fencing to which it is attached,  leaving jagged metal for them to try to crawl through, while being shot at.

Chain link fencing by no means makes a "hardened bunker," but for minimum effort and money, it can do much to delay entry to a home.

NOTE:  Be careful not to trap yourself inside, in case of fire.

Special-K is right on the money, unless you build a house from the ground up there is no way to insure that it is truly hard. That said the idea that you can make it as hard as possable to get in is a good one. Planting sharp shit like piracantha or barbary under windows, good fencing, tempered glass windows, and steel doors will go along way. You can't keep 100% of the people out but you can funnel them into the kill zone.

Another thing you can do as a PLAN D, last ditch effort, is equip everyone in your house with a gas mask (cheap ones will work for this purpose),  and if you start to be overrun, pop a tear gas or OC "grenade", yes these are for sale to the public.  The intruders will not be expecting this.

Tear gas is the cheapest but I suggest using OC, because it's residue dissipates quicker.  Remember, you're still going to have to live there afterward. :'(

Here are some places to find both:

hardening the door is just going to delay them getting in where i can shoot them... unless you plan to just shoot through the door which depending on the situation you could youll just be standing there waiting longer then without all the fancy shit on the door.. hell you might even get tired of waiting and help them in by unlocking it. and i didnt really watch the whole video but the weak points the jam not the door lock side. id just make a steel jam if i wanted to make the door stronger. you can put 30 dead bolts on a door but they are still only being held in by the weak thin wood jam.
