Title: Helmet cams?
Post by: Dave_M on November 07, 2011, 09:41:25 PM
So, shopping for a new helmet cam.

Must be an HD cam, preferably capable of a high frame rate (60FPS or so). I've broken 2 Contour cameras (VholdR and HD) but the ContourROAM is looking better, though not up to full spec. The GoPro cameras appear to be too bulky for weapon mounting....

Any suggestions?

Yeah dude, get a go pro. They just released their HD Hero 2 and they're fucking badass.

I've seen them drop from 3,000 feet and be completely fine. Also, a guy left one at the bottom of a reef (not by choice) for two and a half months and it was perfectly intact and dry!  Not to mention you can mount them on virtually anything and record in 1080p HD.

I'm working on getting one myself. (I'm a Telecommunications major, can ya tell? lol)

I have a GoPro. I use the NVG mount for helmet use.
I clamp it to my Aimpoint for weapon use. I've been using
mine for several months now...

That's exactly what I needed to hear. Alrighty, thanks a bunch

ETA:
The GoPro HERO2 looks like it'll be the ticket. Adjustable FOV and an option of 120FPS at lower resolutions. Cool cool

How much should one of these GoPro's go for? I might grab one to record some of my Canadian antics.

GoPro HERO is ~$200, HERO2 ~$300.

I'm about to drop $320 on a HERO2 so I can have it tomorrow (for some gun filming during a class in NC next week).

Good stuff. Wonder if they'll let me bring it to Basic, if I get in, anyway.

You know what would be badass. Having small helmet cams on football players.
