Nothing ended up happening for us. But things were still a little hectic over here for a while. Everything is back to normal for the most part.
But about a week ago I came down with something. I figured it would just go away, but it got worse. So Thursday night I decided I was going to sick call in the morning. I had audible wheezing in all four quadrants, no fever, an unproductive cough, and sinus congestion. They did chest X Rays and found considerable inflammation. They suspect it’s walking pneumonia, but didn’t do tests to confirm. Have me 48 hours of quarters, and two different antibiotics. As of writing this my quarters is up, and I feel a bit better. Still have sinus congestion, but I feel better. I’ll still be “out of it” for a few more days until the antibiotics take full effect. It’s not always trauma that can pull you “out of the fight” illness plays a massive role too. During the civil war more soldiers died from infections than battle injuries. Doctors didn’t wash their tools, let alone their hands, between patients. We’ve had several “injuries” so far on this deployment. None have been battle related. Some have been relatively simple like an abscess that needs drained, some have been much more complex. Like a grade two ankle sprain that will take months to fully heal. And just having a “medic” in your group, is a terrible idea.
