Charles Krauthhammer is either out of touch with reality or is to close to the problem to see it. He can't understand why President Trump when firing Comey he stated in the pink slip that Comey told him three times that he was not under investigation. If he fired Comey and didn't bring that up the democrats would loudly speculate and the lame stream media would repeat that he probably was under investigation and that is the reason he was fired.
That has been the problem with the Republican party that they don't think ahead to the problems the democrats could create and step in it everytime.

if it matters the 'optics' of firing Comey does seem like he (Trump) is trying to stop an investigation.
Krauthammer does represent the views of a large part of the country.
education and critical thinking skill seem to have waned in the US of A lately.

Krauthammer is an antiTrumper and has been from the beginning, O'reily had him admit it on his show. The Dem's have been calling for Comey's firing from the beginning.

i agree. If Trump had fired Comey in the first week, it would have been seen as an olive branch to the dems.

If you can, listen to Glenn Beck's second hour of his radio program yesterday (5/12/2017). He interviewed Bill O' Reilly for 50 minutes or so. The majority of the discussion was on Comey's termination and how the MSM is treating Trump.
It was a good listen.
