Thanks for the update JM. Glad you have the resources to go ahead and get things fixed, instead of waiting for Insurance and or FEMA to splash the cash. Thoughts and prayers for you and your wife in this difficult time.

I forgot to mention that if you put a broom handle in that plunger (the thread is the same pitch) you can wash what standing!

I said it in your other post but have no reservations about saying it again. God bless you John, may he look over you and yours in the coming days and weeks.

UPDATE

Well Karen and I arrived at the BOL last evening at about 1800. I gave a heads up to the farmer across the way that we were coming and we were greeted with a warm cabin as he started the wood stove earlier in the day.

The traffic was horrendous and what should have taken 5 hours took about 6 1/2. To make it worse, the truck was packed, inside and out and the cats meowed the whole time!

We are going to be living at the BOL for the next 3-4 months due to the contractor kicking us out of our damaged house while he does what needs to get done to make it habitual. The list is long and here is a partial of what needs to get done...

> Industrial engineer has to inspect house to make sure it is sound as it shifted by the surge
> If all is good structurally the carpet has to come out as well as the subfloor
> All of our kitchen and bathroom cabinetry has to be torn out. Apparently our cabinetry is fiberboard and has wicked up the
   salt water
> All sheet rock    4' off the floor has to be torn out along with the insulation
> A hazmat crew has to come in and clean and dry out the wall studs. Once that is done they will spray a solution to retard
    mildew
> Rewire the first floor so out lets will now be 24-30" higher
> Our new furnace was installed this past Monday but they installed it on a wet floor. Our contractor went ape shit when he
found out and was going to bring back the furnace guys to pull it (He will then lay a new floor) and reinstall it. Again he was
incensed that they didn't point this out to me before they installed it. He assured me it would not cost me any additional
    money
> The head floor has to come up and be re-tiled

...the list goes on and on however those are the high-lights.

The good news is that deer season starts Monday here in PA. I typically don't hunt the first week (Center fire rifle season is two weeks long here) but will be able to now hunt both weeks.  [URL=http://www.smileyvault.co

Laying in bed this morning my wife and I were recounting all of the Thanksgiving's we have spent together. From enjoying the day swinging at anchor with friends to the death of my father in-law the day before Thanksgiving in '08. We then finished going down memory lane by thanking God for our good fortune in having our health, good friends, a family that for the most part, does not argue over small stuff and a comfy cabin to call our own.

So there you go...

Good to hear things are going okay JM. Since you have so much time at the cabin, it would be a good time to toy with the BOL, and improve or review things. Get some good WROL practice time in.

Yeah buddy, I knew it was worse than that when you told me you had water in the house..

Primitive finishes stand the test of time much better than the modern. If you had caulked hardwood floors and wainscoat you could have opened the doors and let it flow though.

So if NFI is going to replace the cabinets can you throw some extra on it and get real wood cases?

Yeah hj you are right. Even though all of the wire has been pulled for 110 I guess I have no excuse now to NOT hook up the outlets and set up the mater panel. But then again deer season starts Monday  ;)

TG- My wife and I were talking about just that (TG-"So if NFI is going to replace the cabinets can you throw some extra on it and get real wood cases?") on our drive up here yesterday. We also talked about selling the house once it was 100% before the housing market takes another dump.

My gut is 'telling me' to put it on the market; ask for a high end price on the house and if it sells great if it doesn't no harm no fowl.

We will see...Too much emotion involved right now.  [img]http://www.arrse.co.uk/at

Well Yeah, you can't do anything during deer season. That's sacrilegious.
