Only two of us
« on: June 16, 2016, 09:47:29 PM »
Modern Survival Blog did a survey to find out how many preppers per million were in each state
http://modernsurvivalblog.com/. I live in Delaware which has 935,000 people and they say there is only two preppers here. Boy do I feel lonely :'(

I wouldn't worry too much about it JoJo. That was apparently a poll taken ONLY on that website/blog. So the accuracy to me would be suspect. For example, I've never seen that web site until you posted the link. Obviously, my vote didn't get in.

And even if I did know about it.......... I wouldn't have told them anyway. I'm confident I'm not alone in not telling strangers my plan.

No I'm not worried. With all of the farms and farmers here I'd bet 90% of them are preppers just because they farm. There is just no one to talk to face to face.

Just a general comment from old JohnyMac

I suggest that we all get out there often, to shake hands and kiss babies with our neighbors. My brother and I do this when we can and when folks are at their hunting cabin or house. Easier to do with people who live year-round in your AO but still doable with vacationers.

My brother and I are pretty outgoing (Shocker, I know) and we start out by when we drive/walk past a cabin/house and their are people there we always wave. Once we have done that a few times we stop and just say "Hi" and let folks know where our place is. Then invite them to stop by anytime.

About 50% do in fact stop by within 30 days or so of the initial invite. The other folks we just continue the waving and stopping if appropriate.

Either way, whether they stop by or not, eventually you get the feeling how they swing, Left/right...Progressive/blue dog DEM/GOP/Constitution/Anarchist.

So far on the mountain only one Socialist family, two Progressive/Liberal, one anarchist (Never comes out of his house except to chat with my brother). The rest we have chatted with are a mix of blue dog DEM's, GOP and Constituionalists.

Of the last group we have broached the subject of prepping, SHTF and TEOTWAWKI and defending the mountain.

Anyhow, get to know your neighbors! Do it NOW!

Prepper?  Whats that?  Pepper, I routinely buy the Black, White, Pink and Green mix bottle from walmart.  They taste terrific when fresh ground.  On about anything.

But Im wondering what preppers are.  Guess I get to google some tonight.

Agreed!  Meeting your neighbors is a very important prep, IMHO.  I'm working on doing it myself, but it's hard as I'm actually quite shy.  Walking the dog is a good way to do it as he's a good conversation starter and he lets me talk about something I love (I'm mad for my dog) and not have to come up with something about which to speak/have to introduce myself cold.

Nemo - you're a goof. :D Love it!

A dog is a great conversation starter! So is an infant in a stroller.  ;)

One of the things I woulds treat the sales people who worked for me at West Marine was to walk past a prospective client/customer with a clip board and just say hi and continue walking until you are about 10 feet away. Front a shelf or make believe you are using the clipboard to take inventory and then look back at the customer you just passed and say, "Do you have any questions?"

99 times out of 100 they will say "yes" or start to tell you about their project, hangover, miserable mother in-law, et cetera.

There is some physiological term for this phenomenon that escapes me at the the moment. However, in essence you already introduced your self with the first "hi." Then acting like you are working on a project makes the customer feel that you are not a used car salesman and truly want to listen/help them.

Anyhow, this is the technique I use to reach out to neighbors.

> Drive/walk pass wave
> Drive/walk pass again, wave
> Drive/walk pass quick intro "Hey, I live in the log cabin on XXXX Rd. My name is John. Can you recommend a
logger that I can buy a Tri-Axle of logs from?" If it is a guy. Women I might ask, "I need to by some seedlings
for my garden. Who would you recommend?" You get the idea.
> Depending on how talkative they are, then the conversation will just take on its own direction. Flow with it  ;)

Unfortunately, I currently live in white trash central in a small town. If SHTF can just hold off for 2-3 years, we'll have moved to a nicer place with more space around us...and hopefully better neighbors.

Seems hard to do sometimes. Georgia is pretty damn crowded in the places where there are decent jobs.

I know all of my neighbors, our HOA gives a dinner and association meeting every year. This year a LEO gave a speech on home security and only one other person knew anything. My neighbor across the street slipped and said his wife is into canning, maybe there is a prospect there?
