While up at the BOL during deer season my brother and I had a beer (or 2) with the farmer and his wife across the dirt road. During our many conversations I started to see a similar theme and that was, "Do you know how to do X?"
X = sharpen a saw
X = can meat
X = castrate a hog
X = save seeds for next season
X = grow wheat
X = etcetera
I read a book recently where the main character of the story could not figure out why her turkeys were not mating. She went to a used book store and found a book, written in 1914, about how to raise turkeys. Guess what? Yup you got it, she followed the books suggestions and one of her female turkeys finally laid eggs. She had baby turkeys for next season.
So with that said, when I am asked by family members this year, "what do you and Karen want for Christmas?" I tell them to go to used book stores and buy books on "How too (DIY)." The older the book the better and cheaper.
Just a suggestion from old JohnyMac

Daddy's getting more ammo for Christmas! Ho! Ho! Ho! :) Too bad you can't see me right now. Cause you'd be seeing a 57 year old guy doing his "happy dance". According to the mirror that old boy has got some moves! :)
