Crazyland - Economic and Cultural Suicide
« on: August 23, 2022, 03:45:22 AM »
Felix posted this yesterday as part of a thread and it is so precious I think it deserved its own post. Trust me, it is exactly what is happening in our country and around the globe and it will not end well.

Quote
In a confab of friends on a warm evening this weekend, someone asked: Do you think what's going on is due to incompetence or malevolence? The USA is certainly skidding into a great and traumatic re-set featuring a much lower standard of living for most citizens amidst a junkyard of broken institutions. But so are all the other nations of Western Civ. If it's not being managed by malign forces, such as der Schwabenklaus and his WEF myrmidons, then it sure looks like some sort of controlled demolition. The big question hanging over the 2022 election, then, is: Must America commit suicide?...

... Personally, I think we under-appreciate the tendings of history per se, and that tending these days is the set of circumstances adding up to a Long Emergency, a.k.a. the Fourth Turning, a.k.a, Mr. J.M. Greer's Long Descent. In plain English, we're exiting the techno-industrial fiesta of the past 200-odd years and entering the uncharted territory of what-comes-next, and that is driving the immense anxiety of the age. Our business model for everything is broken, mostly because the fossil fuel situation has become so uncertain, and it is driving us nuts. Understand that and you will have enough mental equipment operating correctly to stay sane.

Suicide is hardly the only option. Resist those who want to drag you into it. We are going to carry on one way or another. We're going to make it through this bottleneck. Let the insane bury the insane. Keep your eyes peeled, keep your hearts open, and keep your powder dry.
- James Howard Kunstler

Similar stuff like what we're living through today has happened many many times throughout history, the biggest difference is in the past "the People" always had the option to leave their area and travel to unpopulated lands to start over. Today the entire world has been populated and there is no place on the planet for freedom lovers to go. it truly is TEOTWAWKI...

Which brings my ponders back to the "relocation" thingie.     True, there are no vacant continents nor many places you can't get an ATV into these days.    But relocating in America is still possible with some fairly clearly delineated lines to chose from.
For instance, I'm still looking at property in Missouri online after a week's visit there.   Currently in Flagstaff, AZ, I am something of a fish out of water socially.    The neighborhood is retired and/or working and "progressive".   The women are all incensed that the SC kicked abortion back to the States, their rights, their body, yadda, yadda, yadda...  And men have no business even arguing the matter.   The valley I live in is long and bordered by forest, not easily defended - even with the doling out of Baofeng radios.
My "Prepper Ways" are made fun of.    Yet when the flag goes up... will a MAG be possible in light of developments or will I simply be overwhelmed 'cuz "I have stuff".   It's not like I advertise but people know or think they have a pretty good idea of what their neighbor has, is doing.   No depth to any team here.   Good people but in denial and able to reinforce each others delusions on the basis of herd numbers.  But I am established, marriage on rocks and feeling all 70 years.

OTOH, I see constant reassurances of the folk in area I'm looking at as having depth, basic living skills (they even know where their food comes form) and connections with community.    Heck, a good many of the gardening and food and other pertinent topics I watch on YouTube are made by people hailing from Texas, Arkansas, Missouri, etc.     But I have no family there and would be a newcomer starting from scratch.
Fort up in place, "behind enemy lines"?    Or cede even more territory to the ignorant, frightened, Godless hosts?    I'd at least like to serve as a bridge to help others across the chasms that are opened up, but where?    "Here" is important.   "There" they already seem to "have it covered".
Getting over a second Covid infection caught last week in Oregon trip, too much work to do to think straight and another NAVHDA trip starting this coming Thursday.   As an example of what NOT to do, I am possibly Oscar rank material.

Folks should read Kunstler's entire blog post, as he explores what has been happening.  Jim Kunstler had an epiphany some years back going from a Leftist Obama supporter to a conservative realist.  I'm guessing part of his mental makeover is due to leaving the sordid streets of NYC and moving to a small, remote town in upstate NY, near the Vermont border.

His fictional World Made By Hand series is an excellent read, and the bulk of the series takes place in the area where he currently resides.  Kunstler writes very well and his prose just rolls off the pages making you feel as though you are actually there.  Kunstler's non-fiction books like The Long Emergency are worth reading too.  I keep bugging him about writing more stories connected with World Made By Hand, but he insists he's done with that series.

It's also interesting that folks across America are questioning the country's current trajectory.  People are concerned about the status of our country, about the Leftist leanings of our government, about the supply chain issues, and about the repercussions from the Chinese virus and the insidious vaccine.

Speaking of supply line shortages, went to a Walmart super center last evening to do some grocery shopping.  There was no milk in the milk cooler, no whole milk, no 2%, skim, nothing.  There were no gallons, half gallons, nothing.   I've never seen anything like that before.  Sometimes they're out of one particular brand, but this time there was nothing!

Pasta was again pretty much cleaned out too.  Many other shortages were noted in my shopping list.

It's going to be a hard winter for many folks.

It will be very hard for some (in perhaps, a teachable moment)
It could be a very _different_ winter for those better prepared.
Different isn't always bad if you have a hand in shaping the differences.

Self-actualization/responsibility - it could be driven to star status once folks are force-weaned from on-time/next day delivery!

Check current wool sox status... Check.    :-)

Yeah Felix you have some decisions to make for sure brother. Me, I would lean towards Missouri or Arkansas. The quickest way to become part of the community is to start going to a local church.

Zero milk at a Walmart  OMG!

Better get a cow to go with the steer and chickens.

You just might turn into a real live farmer before this is all over with.

If you need a second magazine, its time to call in air support.

God created Man, Col. Sam Colt made him equal, John Moses Browning turned equality to perfection, Gaston Glock turned perfection into plastic fantastic junk.

Accidents DO happen.   Open doors lead to even more open doors and reclaiming/rediscovering the wisdom and skill sets of our great-great-grandparents is an ongoing revelation.
Enhancing "food security" leading to...?
Meanwhile, and sorry if this isn't a thread fit...

"The People?s Republic of China is preparing to go to war, and it is not trying to hide its efforts."

""What IF" the Taiwan/South China Sea balloon goes up - we probably  lose critical chip access and a host of critical supplies immediately/at the whim of our adversary.   You like your antibiotics?   You can keep your antibiotics.   Uh-huh... life and old style deaths there...

I'll have plenty of firewood and pickled turnips.   And disruptions that Nostradamus didn't care to specify, cuz predictions are hard, especially when they concern the future.

All the "easy" resources have been tapped.    Bootstrapping up from a serious collapse now might not be as "easy" as it was for the original Industrial Revolution.   And it _might_, it just _might_ not even be possible.     Flint knapping anyone?

Great post. By the way, a friend within the DC Loop asked me to watch the Shantou Harbor/river of China. When the Navy there start to move out of the harbor, the attack will start on Taiwan.
