Giving a speech at the next ARES meeting.
« on: June 14, 2022, 06:45:34 PM »
ARES is an acromym for Amateur Radio Emergency Servive. We have a local ARES net every Wednesday night on the local repeater. I have been asked to speak about Prepping at the next meeting on June 20th and I agreed. I sat down and made some notes about as many topics as I could think of. Damn!!! I ended up with 3 pages of notes. One of the topics is, "Not all Preppers agree on everything". Some don't agree on how much food to stock up on and I don't have a problem with that because none of us knows how long the problem will last. The shortest topic is about firearms. My comment will be, "If you don't have a way to protect yourself and family, then we're going to miss you around here." That subject also is one that no two preppers can actually agree on. How many firearms and how much ammo is enough? Nobody really knows, so the best answer is "All you can get." The average Joe on the street pretty much thinks that Prepping is mostly about Food and Firearms. I will be pointing out a lot about Health and Hygein. Hell, The wife and I are 77 years old and I've got test kits for blood sugar, pregnancy, blood pressure, body temperature and heart rate. I can't begin to tell you how many bottles of 90% Alcohol and Hydrogen Peroxide that I've got stored. I haven't even scratched the surface of all the crap that I have stocked up.

Awesome!

I did a short chat on this subject awhile back and I broke it down to the 3-B's. Beans, Band-aides, Bullets. My presentation was about 20-minutes long. The questions and comments section was over an hour long.

Have fun!

What I find 'interesting' is that the first questions are usually
'How much food do you have?".
'How many guns and ammunition do you have?"
and more such TV nonsense.

Outside of the Western world, the two biggest killers are:

1. Bad Hygiene, especially as it related to water and food handling.
2. Other third worlders.
3. I don't need all that; I'll just come to your house.   :DrillSgt:  "YOU LOW LIFE, PINHEADED KNUCKLE-DRAGGING MAGGOT!  GET OFF MY LAWN!"

The old saying is trUe, that "Plumbers save more lives than doctors." .  By keeping water SOURCES seperated from animal/human waste, many lives are spared a terrible death and community illnesses are largely prevented, rather than waiting for government doctors and Big Pharma to give us medicines to cure what we did to ourselves.

A lone time ago, as an instructor, I used to preface classes with:

"99% of what is commonly called "SURVIVAL" is good old fashioned HOME ECONOMICS: shelter, clean water and kitchen. The last 1% is the ability to hold on to your shelter, clean water and kitchen.".

Please let us know how your talk goes and how it was received.
Prepper or Survivalist ?

A Prepper keeps survival rations for his pets.

A Survivalist  keeps pets as survival rations.

Well, tonight is the night that I go to talk about Prepping to the ARES group. I broke it down into topicxs: DEBT: FOOD: POWER: PERSONAL HYGEIN: HEATING AND COOLING: SECURITY: MUTUAL ASSISTANCE GROUPS: COMMUNICATIONS: TWO IS ONE AND ONE IS NONE: WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG: BUGGING IN OR BUGGING OUT: TRADE ITEMS: THE GRAY MAN. I hope that I can get the message across to them that becoming as independent from the Government as possible is their best hope.

Well, I'm home from the Speech. It went rather well. I tried to stay on topic as much as I could and I was able to answer questions in an intellegent manner. I made sure to mention UNCHAINEDPREPPERS.COM. I did get some bad news while I was there. A Doctor friend who is also a Ham passed away recently. He was a Green Beret and Military Doctor before I met him and became friends. It would be nice if all of us on Unchained Preppers were Hams but that would be wishing for too much. When I got home, there was one thing more that I wish I had said. I meant to tell them to make sure there spouse was on board with prepping because it sure is a lot better to not have to explain yourself everytime you get more prepping gear. My wife is so on board that when I buy something, she always says that I should have bought more.
