I don't think this is directed to anyone here so before you get your panties in a bunch chill out and read it.
So today I go to the range to do some training all in all it was a good day, I shot true and everything that had issues was fixed.
So to the point of this rant. Some dude shows up with his chick. ( [URL=http://www.smileyvault.co BTW ) any who. The range goes cold and he goes to set up hit targets. I notice a DTOM tattoo ( Don't Tread on Me ) by now we can all say that is pretty much our motto right? You see that and your pretty sure he's a good guy and on our side, up to snuff with prepping and what not. ( Apparently a horrible generalization )
So first thing he breaks out is a Desert Eagle 50 Caliber, well on round 7 the slide separates and the barrel is all fucked. Basically the pistol blew up. ( There goes 1000 fucking dollars ) All boo boo faced but not deterred he pulls out a S&W 500 at least this one didn't blow up.
Then he says and I quote " Hey babe, why don't you pull out your primary? " she says " Ok Hun ;D " and pulls out a GSG-5 22LR
Then he goes on to get his a WASR 10/63 ( compared to other AK Wasr's are the bottom of the barrel I don't care how yours is or how you have never had problems, its still the cheapest of the cheap. Say what you want I really don't care. Unless I have to I'll stick to a little bit more pricey stuff because again IMO " You get what you pay for "
SO back to the rant and the completion of the story. This guy a " Patriot " has 2 grand in pistols and as his primary ( A lot more important than any secondary IMO ) he has junk for him and his loved one. If this is how our freedom fighters think,I think I'm better off just disappearing in the fucking woods. I hope that he is just fucking retarded and all others are not like that. What a waste.

I don't see anything wrong with his choices. Especially since the Desert Eagle blew up. (Not sure why he went for that other than he might have gone through a period when his you know what wasn't working properly.)
I wouldn't dis the WASR 10. The thing will blow big holes in you and it doesn't care how much you spent on what you just dropped to the ground. And if it's a phosphorus round it will cook you while it's doing it.
A 22lr for a lot of women makes sense. Hell, a 22lr for a lot of men makes sense. I'd have no prejudice against using one to take out someone who made me feel threatened. With proper shot placement a 22lr will kill someone just as dead as a 7.62x39.
How much you spent on your weapon isn't what gives you a feeling of security. It's knowing how to use whatever it was you bought.

I think this post brings up a good discussion. Thanks Reaver. Especially for people just now starting to prep, young or old, who don't have much money due to the economy. You don't need to have the latest, greatest, high dollar weapon system out there, all tricked out with every kind of gadget in the catalog in order to protect yourself.
Spending the bank on your weapon isn't going to guarantee that you aren't one of the first to go if tshtf. Sorry, it doesn't work that way in real life. Honestly, even a shit load of paid training isn't going to help you much no matter how much "muscle training" you've developed if you've never been in a firefight and have some kind of idea of what it's actually like to have another person trying to line a bead on you. The fact is that your muscles aren't going to react the way you think they will because of all of your practiced muscle training. This doesn't mean not to practice or get paid training if you are flush with cash. But realize the priorities if you aren't flush.
Training has it's place and you absolutely have to learn your weapon. But don't train away all the cash you have. Take a big picture approach and spread some of the cash you have around to the other necessities that will keep you alive. Food, water, medicine, and a whole list of other things that are just as important as a weapon.
If that means you buy a used 22lr and a 1,000 rounds for under $250 so you can have some money left for supplies. Then that is the smart way to go. Use your head and make decisions that make sense for where you are at and the money you have.
Sure, if you are flush, buy the APC, the Barrett, and all the rest. Get the paid training and learn the techniques that can help you. But before you do, use the most important weapon you have. Your brain.

hey guys i have a messed up Desert Eagle up for sale if anyones interested... i had a shitty day at the range, and this little fucker with his fancy AK's kept eyeballing me and my chick. let me know if your interested....
But anyways.. yeah... i agree with reaver in a way... no matter the platform dont go with bottom of the barrel shit... if your dead fucking broke then buy a Nice, Reliable 22lr instead of a Shitty, Unreliable AK/AR... what ever your budget...lock in your price range and try to find a quality weapon that fits in your budget.

I carry none of the above. I know how you feel though. IMO, I chock it up to my own jealousy. I know Ill never be able to afford the cool kit that makes me high speed low drag (in some instances low speed, high drag :)) ). And when I see some derelict abuse it at the range through carelessness or incompetency, it makes me want to punch myself unconscious.

Anyway, I had a good day. I got to shoot an AMT 30, somewhat zero'd my DM rifle ( minute of man at 100yrds )
Did pretty good with the 74 as well. I have to say. I think when I top off my mags I may have a new primary... all that talkin shit about pushing a .30 caliber bullet may bite me in the ass. That 5.45x39 is a bad ass little heater and 0 recoil.

as far as the ak goes, eh i got a wasr10/63 it goes bang everytime and it's good out to 300 meters, what exactly does your ak do differently?
also if anyone wants to buy some 50A&E ammo let me know i got 10 boxes of hollow points for sale

Damn, puttin' down my WASR-10/63. I put a nice sling on mine, birdcage flash-hider, and keep it immaculately clean. Thousands of rounds, zero malfunctions, the look on your face: PRICELESS. His choice of pistols suck, though. In a WROL situation those rounds would be impossible to get. I'll stick with my .45 ACP.

I think the choice of side arms couldve used some more thought.
I have no issues with .22 though. a ruger 10/22 is on my list of shit to own. and i have a crappy little .22 bolt action to put food on the table.
But more likely than not the guy doesn't actually prep he just whacks off to Red Dawn.

But to spend it just on the weapon is stupid, more so on the fact that its a pistol. I feel a rifle is where the money needs to be dropped when you are thinking of self defence. ..its just stupid to buy something like a DE or a S&W500 .... It's not like that will be on hand if something bad happens and if its something short term and you have to use said weapon. How is it going to look if you pull out a DE .50 cal to a jury. I believe IMHO that would look a lot worse due to over penatration and possible collateral damage.... Just my .02
