The Prepper Mindset.
« on: November 09, 2011, 01:20:55 PM »
Ok so i was watching a video on youtube(dont remember who is was by) but the guy made a very good point, basically what he said was every prepper seems to have a mind set that they will be the next rambo and will be unkillable, and no matter how much food, water, guns, and ammo u have it only takes one bullet to kill you. so then i was thinking that i wouldnt really want to grab my ak and have a firefight with someone, but what i was thinking if u see someone going around carrying a gun it would be best to invite them to stay with ur group and help defend it if they are just trying to get away from looters and gangs like everyone else or aproach them with ur weapon drawn and ask what they are looking for instead of shooting them. but could u guys give me some advice whether to force them to leave or see what they want first?

The guy that thinks every prepper has a Rambo mindset is an idiot.

Three Points to Remember.
1)  If you shoot at people they shoot back.
2)  The greater the number of shooting conflicts you are involved in has a direct lowering effect on your chances for long term survival.
3)  In real life Rambo dies.

In bad times large numbers of people will be migrating.  Shooting at people who you do not know what their motives are will get you killed.  The key to dealing with approaching people is to not be surprised by their approach.  This means having a security watch which means being part of a community.

There will also be flash mobs of people that will come for your supplies, basically if they look like they want your supplies they most likely do.

I expect cities and the suburbs will be chaos that's why I'm rural. The weapon heavy idiots will be easy to spot and not tolerated by the locals here. There will be incidents while everything gets sorted out but keeping both your head down and and being active with good folk, it should pass pretty quick. Unestablished asses showing up in areas unfamiliar to them are pretty much screwed no matter how well armed (shoulda zigged instead of zagged situation and they wind up with the gimp in the cellar if their lucky :) probably food for the dawgs if their not.). Weapon only idiots are pretty much gonna be a dangerous irritation for a bit but most will lack the discipline and therefore the needed skills to be a real long term threat, in my occasionally humble opinion. Flash mobs aren't even a match for a fraction of their number in committed men.

Easy on the weapon heavy idiots term there bud.

Look, its pretty common knowledge fuck with people they fuck back.

Your options are
1. Be rambo and die.
2. Be part of a community
3. Disappear into the woods and never show your face again.

Option 3 is what I opted for, Not that I don't want to be part of a community or anything cause that would be awesome. But I really don't have that many friends and I'm all alone down here.

Think groups mountain.  Some might be migrating alone, most people won't be.

Just an observation I include myself in:  It's easy to disrespect any weapon when it's not pointed at you.

Yeah, I have to agree with Sledge. Mtn, why don't you tell me where you live, Reaver and I will go there, and he and I will both take turns shooting at you at 100 yards with the AK? We'll even let you zig-zag!

LOL!  These guys look for any excuse to go shooting!  Although, if one of my ex's didn't live out that way a trip to Colorado would sound like fun.

I never understood the mindset of people who will spend money on guns, but not armor, or lots of bullets, but not medical supplies. (Not band aids and neosporin either) Same with people who go to classes to learn how to fight with guns, but not treat gunshot wounds.

If you have something that puts holes in people, you need to have something to stop yourself from getting holes in you, and to patch up the holes you get in yourself.

You are also far more likely to save a life with medical skills and supplies than you are with a weapon.
It's better to have it and not need it ...

Too right mate. I'm one of those who believe that if you want to own firearms, you should know how to treat wounds. Pretty sure that in some nations, to be able to own guns you HAVE to pass a medical course. Don't quote me, but I think the Czech Republic is one of those.

I'm one of those guys,

except for the bullets/medical/ talk.

I just don't believe in armor.
Mainly because I know that I can stop the blood from a gun shot wound. What I cannot fix is three broken ribs a collapsed lung, and a lacerated kidney.

When you wear body armor, and you get hit with something big. All of that energy is transferred into your body. Do you really think your internals aren't going to be fucked? I'd rather bleed out trying to stop the bleeding from a shot. Than bleed out from inside.

& please take hospitals out of the equation cause they aint there.

I agree with the medical part, that's key and probably you'll use your medicine knowledge a lot more than your guns.

About armor, I don't like it much, it seriously reduces your agility and put extra weight on you and if you get shot with a rifle it won't do anything.
