Own yes buy I don't think so. I think the Fed's have outlawed the purchase. It is up to the states to allow the age of owning. Which is kind of crazy as if you are 20 yrs old and your dad gives you a handgun is that a straw purchase transfer?

I bought a cap n' ball handgun when I was 15 or 16- No problem. My dad bought me a Stoeger Lugar when I was 18 due to the laws back in 1974.

Again this is off the top of my head- No research.

Should we ask the current group of candidates if a bill came on their desk to repeal the '86 or '68 attachments to the '34 NFA if they would veto or approve it? Real simple.

and chesty from what i understand south carolina has some really screwed up hand gun laws. When i lived in NC it was a bitch to buy a hand gun, even face to face you had to go to the court house in your county and get a hand gun permit to purchase each hand gun you wanted.

21 up in my state. On the bright side I think you can buy a shotgun at 16.
Fan out your shots. We want everyone to get some.

I know that this doesn't help you Chesty, but;

To buy any firearm in Canada you must have a PAL (Possession and acquisition License) or RPAL (Restricted PAL), and to get that you need to be 18.

All Pistols (and any AR type rifle) are deemed restricted, so you'll need an RPAL (and also, a part of getting the RPAL is that you have to be a member of a certified range). So yeah, any 18 year old can get their RPAL and buy a pistol here in Canada.

You're better off buying a used pistol off craigslist or a local gun forum anyway.
It's better to have it and not need it ...

You got good taste in pistols little brother,

Federal law allows the sale of a long gun or a handgun between private parties of the same state as long as the purchaser is 18 years of age or older. An individual who does not possess a federal firearms license may not sell a modern firearm to a resident of another state without first transferring the firearm to a dealer in the purchaser's state
