California Prepping Planners Increasing?
« on: October 09, 2019, 08:51:16 PM »
The electric company is shutting down power in wide areas to prevent forest fires.  Sure seems to me the no power idea is awfully counterproductive. Ideas I can hear in the neighborhood out there.

Honey, lets just grill in the standing fireplace in the back yard. We have some wood left over from a year or 2 ago in the shed.

Or we can just go charcoal in the new grill.

Or use that wood smoker your brother gave us last Christmas.

Or lets let our 13 year old son show us his safe, controlled, campfire building skills he learned in boy scout camp. Hot dogs and toasted marshmallows would be great fun.

What about the idea of medical emergency.

Anyone think there well be some new preppers in the area in general?  Might even be a few new firearm owning second amendment supporters.

How PG&E’s historic blackouts will put California’s medical emergency planning to the test

Health care providers and officials around Northern California said that PG&E’s electrical grid shutdown, expected to trigger blackouts in 34 of 58 counties on Wednesday, will test on a grand scale whether residents and medical care facilities have done enough to planning for medical emergencies.

“Placer County is expected to be impacted by the public safety power shutoff event,” said Michael Romero, a program manager with that county’s Health & Human Services Department. “More than 50,000 meters, which could be up to 150,000 residents, could be impacted. Obviously, we’re very concerned with the impact.”

I want to be sympathetic and I think I might actually be sympathetic but, come on folks, its California where insanity is the daily norm. I wonder if they even gave the residents prior notice or just figured the people would figure it out on their own when the lights went out. When everybody who has a generator fires those things up, the neighbors who don't have one are going to be really pissed off.

Living in the center of California I have a bit of perspective.

Notice of the proposed power shut down was given a few days before hand, with maps of the general areas to be shut off.  Five days to be down for those affected.  Now for those not Prepared, and given that the majority of people have barely enough money to go from pay check to pay check, a couple of days to get ready won't be enough.

Those of you who live in areas where power shut downs happen because of ice storms etc, are no doubt used to these conditions and being Unchained are Prepped  and ready.

The last couple of years have seen big fires affecting the expensive wine country and wiping out entire areas including the Sierra town of Paradise.  This was laid at the feet of PG&E.  As could be expected, now that PG&E are taking proactive steps, the public is complaining of the burden imposed on them by having the power off.

You would think that this action would be a wake-up for all and that the majority would follow at least FEMA guidelines, or better cruise on over to Unchained Preppers or The Survival Podcast or similar sites to learn what to do.

I am not hopeful.  What we can do is get our own house in order.

Lets not forget CA. is screwed up because of the government in Sacramento. But who voted in the government there?

The people who live from the Golden Gate down to Dana Point, west of the Northern and Southern ranges, outweigh votes from the other parts of CA.

I am waiting for the day the voices from the coastal regions to demand session from the USofA.
