Force Multipliers.
« on: March 11, 2013, 11:30:57 PM »
It's as simple as the title. I have a long running list with tidbits of information on various prepping categories from water to psychology that I've acquired over the years. Problem I'm having now is with force multiplication. I know a lot of you guys here have military experience so I'd love some input, but I also admire creativity. One of my favorites I actually got from my mom. She has this thing for solar powered junk (aka solar lights). She puts them all over her yard, but the best ones are these little solar motion sensor lights on the front and back of some trees. Unless you can jump 12' and avoid the sensor in the first place you're going to get in the spotlight. And for $5 a pop they aren't going to break the bank for a small perimeter. So what kind of force multipliers do you guys employ and/or what would like to use?

P.S. If you had the money for FLIR would you go for it?

Depending on what sort of force you're up against, and NOD's or FLIR will make you a god among men.

But some of the obvious to me are;

terrain advantage that will make any enemy force walk into a fatal funnel

dogs as another early warning device

trip flairs, or if you do have NOD's, trip IR chem lights

RC planes or the like as your own drones

Just a few that I've thought of

Very nice. I like the rc plane idea. I've been looking for awhile, but not found anything to my precise needs. I thought maybe a quad rotor, but all of them run off Apple devices or the Android  ::) I do have an rc car with a good video feed, but it's pretty noisy. I have night vision currently (middle of the row), but I'm thinking for a group FLIR would be a better scouting tool.

If we are just talking about perimeter stuffs and not firefight stuff. I've got a little something for ya.

Please good sir. Keep in mind this is 100% illegal and will not work out so well for you in court.
However this is merely hypothetical for a no laws no rules situation.

Thanks RvR for the links specifically American Specialty as I have been looking for the flare booby trap.

I have used rat trap booby traps where the bail closes on a musket cap placed on a nail that I had previously put through trap. Attach a packet of fire crackers to the nail under the cap and you have quite the alarm. The challenge is to keep things dry. Plastic bags don't work as they prevent the bail from closing.

Reliable intel is the biggest force multiplier of all.  To me, good information lets me choose to skirt harm's way amongst other things.  The best source is still human intelligence with a "man on the inside."  You can also send out quiet two-man teams with binocs and scopes for gathering visual intel at a distance.  You nay not be able to hear conversations, but you can get vehicle and activity descriptions, as well as size and location of the force.

Rvr, I love that link! Would a 37mm launcher just be crazy? I've been thinking about one for years  :-\ It'd certainly make the 4th of July more interesting  [url=http://www.freesmileys.or

I was watching Doomsday Preppers one night and they had this guy on from Alaska who was loading trees up with tannerite to fell the trees along his escape route. Really like that idea too, but it reminds me of stories from the Battle of Bulge. My great uncle was there from day one and one of the last to leave. From what I've been told it wasn't so much the direct mortar fire as the mortars hitting trees causing wood shards to fly everywhere.

I'm thinking $2k split by 3 or 4; so not to much of dent in the old wallet. I wish I would've done it back when I had my old job before I got night vision. My wife is sitting here watching me type and just said "You don't have night vision. Wait, you do, you have everything." Not FLIR  :( Yet lol.

COMMS and NODs.

if you can get a decent set up of either your cooking with crisco.

me personally, id get a good commo net up before i went for NODs.

its kinda expensive for decent gear you can keep comsec with but that is what im currently working on. my goal is to get a decent set up before it get out.

EDIT: damn 2k for a flir.. you could get (roughly) 8 decent radios with all the essentials for that money
one option im looking at.

I've got some radios, but I'm thinking field phones too. If also fails signal mirrors. Got these awhile back. http://www.uscav.com/Productinfo.aspx?productid=22653&tabid=548

signal mirrors are def a good cheap option, and i have quite a few. but really only work when you are looking for the signal.

Crudos,
you have your Baofeng now for a couple of months. Maybe an updated review is appropriate.  :))

It's amazing how as you get older you forget the things you used to play with as a kid. IMHO this would be a great multiplier http://www.stungunmikes.com/bionic-ear.html?utm_source=googlepepla&utm_medium=adwords&id=19744701425&utm_content=pla

Also good for spying on the wife, teenager, next door.....never mind. You get the idea.

This site actually has some neat shit.
