Communications
« on: January 13, 2021, 12:05:06 AM »
It's been in the news lately, regarding the pixelnacht that recently occurred, where many conservative social media and news outlets have been deplatforned by Leftist connected companies.  Many of these websites were surprised that they were shut down, and they shouldn't have been.  It's normal in a war to destroy your opponent's communications as one of your first objectives, so the enemy loses command and control capabilities.

However, as NC Scout has aptly pointed out, once you've eliminated the enemy's primary communications capability, they will find a more effective, alternate means of communications.  One alternate to consider is amateur radio.  Amateur radio provides a wide variety of communications methods that vary in complexity and in cost.  The simplest method is Morse code, also known as CW.  A low power CW transceiver station could easily be assembled for under $100.00.  More advanced digital mode or satellite stations can cost $25.00-3000.00, depending upon equipment.

I suggest that anyone that wishes to stay informed and connected should consider obtaining their amateur radio license.  The exam for the technician license is very basic, easy enough that 7 and 8 year old kids are doing it.  The exam questions and answers are readily available from a number of sources, so that memorization is one method of passing.  Amateur radio classes both traditional and on-line are available.

Think about it, do you really want to rely on CNN as your sole source for news?  Motivate yourself to learn about radio communications, and obtain some equipment, while you still can.

Amen Jackalope...Amen.

I would like to add; studying, and them passing your exam to get your Tech license is to get your foot in the door to legally play with radios. Once you can play with the radio you bought, whether it is a UHF/VHF/HT, the learning really begins there.

With a Technicians license, you can use voice, CW, and digital from 6-meters on through UHF (6-meters, VHF, and UHF). On 10-meters and lower (27.000 Mhz down to 1.8 Mhz you can do digital and CW. Once you then get that General ticket then voice opens up from 10-meters on.

I have written about studying ad nauseum on your own. So, look it up if you would like to know my study suggestion.

Good stuff Jackalope!
