Ciggerettes in an Altoids can
« on: December 04, 2014, 04:08:27 PM »
Couple of different places to put this lol Health, Survival, Gear. I figured why not just general for this one.

 So, I was doing some bag layouts and stuff rearranging and updating old gear with new. Well I got to my bag and seen my little altoids survival box. Well, I have recently got another couple cans to add to other bags. I had just gotten back from the store with 2x packs of smokes one for now another for prepping purposes. Figured what the hell lets find out. Sure as shit an entire pack of Marlboro Reds ( shorts ) will fit in an altoids can. Not sure about freshness but Ill let you know how it goes seeing as a pack will last me about a week now. Lets be clear I am not putting the sealed pack in the can I'm putting " Lucies " (  :deadHorse:  ) in the can.

So, for those that smoke. Now you got a smokes protector. Screw those expensive dudads to hold smokes just get a can of altoids.

You can also vacuum seal the Altoids can of smokes which should keep them fresh for a year or so.

In my youth my cigarette of choice was Camel Filters. MrsMac's gave up smoking a little over a year ago and her smoke of choice was Larks.

I bought them rolled and rolled my own.  For 35+ years.  Then went into full cardiac arrest at age 54.  Got revived and all is well now.  But cardiologist suggested I quit.  I used some of those vapor smokes for a week or so and did.  Dayum nice to breath again.  Those of you who do smoke, I envy you and would love to join you on the balcony for an after dinner light up. I could light up again any instant and enjoy the living daylights out of it.  But I should stay quit and it would probably be a good thing for you guys to do that also.

MrsMac smoked for 47 years and never had a desire to quit. When we finally found a surgeon to work on her back his one condition was that she did not smoke for 6 months post the operation. Her last cigarette was smoked in my truck as we approached the front door of the hospital the morning of her operation.

It was tough on her so her GP suggested vapor cigarettes. She tried them and it did help. She started with the 2.0 nicotine ones and is now down to 1.0 or so. They cost about 1/4 of the price of a pack/carton of cigarettes and she can "vape' whenever and wherever she chooses.

Now with that said, if I wasn't there to remind her that if she did start again she would have to smoke outside on the porch, she would light-up in a NY Minute.

Nicotine has got to be one of the most addictive drugs out there.

By the way Nemo...Good going!

Reasonably healthy, extra 10-20 that I should not have carried, but overall at least pretty good shape.  Surgeon went in and left 2 stints to open one major cardiac artery and cholesterol was a bit short of sky high (per regular primary care doc).  I am now on a better diet and cholesterol is way down in excellent shape-- again per him.

I still have the 15 but due to ankle fusion a year ago August and hip replacement (car crash many moon past) I have not been as active due to need for those things.  But gimmee another month and I will run rings around the best of ya here.

Go see Doc, get cholesterol check and quit smoking.  If cholesterol is too high, there are low cost scripts for that.

Give up the smoking.  That is the single best way to improve things.  Trust me, you will miss that golden brown ambrosia of the gods every minute of every day after.  I know I have and will tomorrow and every minute of every day and night afterward also.  You will also truly appreciate being able to breath like you never realized you could.  That is pretty good too.

Side Note--  This is applicable to anyone here.

I thought you didn't drink? Bastard.

I eat horribly myself and drink regularly.

But I am currently on a gym kick that I intend to keep up. 5 days a week.

My gym buddy is my younger brother(see pic).

I took a before pic and will post progress pics with it whenever I see significant progress show up in a picture. Working out with my brother is good motivation. For one he knows what he's doing, and two I get to spend time with my brother.

Cholesterol is an evil mistress that can very easily sneak up on you. A high protein diet while I was training for boxing did a real number on mine but it was relatively easy (compared to other vices) to get a handle on. Liquor was much harder but I don't regret it for a second. Still working on the smoking, cut down from 30 a day to about 5. With this last week being a bit rough I didn't realise that I was back to 15/20 so back to stage 1 again. However, even when I do kick the habit completely, they'll always have a place in my preps as they have a great number of uses.

I started smoking when I was nine years old and smoked for thirty five years. I quit thirty years ago and as I type this I am on my Nebulizer because I have COPD. I am limited in what I can do because I only have 49% breathing compacity. I'm not going to tell you to quit, that's your choise. But like all smoker's I thought I was invinceable. :deadHorse:

I agree with you JoJo. That smoke wasn't going to hurt me either.  I was a radical smoker.  You did not like me smoking, move upwind or gitthehellouttahere.  So anything I suggest is that.  But I do have to tell ya, breathing is alot better without.
