Charlotte Riots 1st Hand Experience
« on: September 27, 2016, 08:36:54 PM »
Hey guys, I hope all is well. I've been very busy the past several weeks finishing a lawsuit, ending my two weeks notice, oh, and getting to deal with Charlotte "protesters." I hate to say it, but in the 20 years I've lived here I've never seen anything like it. This past Friday my friend and I had one of our district commissioners on the show with us. He had been on television just a little while before hand. The situation is thankfully calming down now, but it definitely gave me a reality check.

First of all, this of course happens my finally week of work. So on top of getting my former colleagues ready for inventory I got to deal with our Mall being surrounded by protestors and cops everywhere. Apparently after the first two nights they decided it would be better to go in to the more affluent neighborhoods to real havoc. There was a total disregard for the truth. National media was dismissive of factual evidence in what I can only assume was a ploy to endow the rioters with some sense of vindication. By Friday it was obvious that the national guard being called in helped settle things down, but it didn't prevent blacks from wearing their racist "black lives matters" shirts, making rude comments, or trashing whatever they could. Truly, even being armed, as a white man in Charlotte the numbers are staggering and modestly intimidating.

When you come face to face with ignorant hatred of this kind and sheer numbers it does make you ponder: do I need a belt fed gun for WROL/SHTF? I sincerely hope there is a window to bug out in for everyone who is awake. If things happen suddenly and you live near a city or in one; you need to know how to fortify what you have.

Thank you for this update and perspective.

It brings out a great deal of things to think about.

But do you really want to take a chance that the "protestors" have a sense of self-preservation equal to or greater than roaches?

You may not need it or you may.  And its always better to have and not need than to need and not have.

Fortifying may be a solution but remember that buildings burn.. movement away from the situation is a better idea.

Most county Building Code Enforcement offices have prints on record, public record. You would be amazed at how may ratways, pipe chases and tunnels exist in this world and let's not forget that you can always step though the interior walls of most modern buildings.

Ma Deuce goes a long way on fire prevention.

Well, the unfortunate thing about Charlotte is a lot of these protesters likely have access to a gun. There are ranges and shops all over the place. I've taken a lot of steps to fortify my house and property. It's not fireproofed obviously, but luckily I keep most of my preps slightly off site and secure. My concern is mostly when the crap hits the fan. People of this variety will be scouring the streets for whatever they can. If my group and I can't make it out of the city in a timely fashion we may be confronted with a horde.

That said, I've been bulking up one force multipliers. All legal of course. I'm mainly mentioning all this because it's a shocking reality to think about such a mass of people. I'd advise folks to study up on their tactics. You may be needing them in the very near future.

Great idea TPA but where can we get that information. I just hate googling.

Jojo- I'd personally recommend using the Tails operating system. If you're concerned about being tracked, framed, profiled, or just wanting to look at increasingly shameful porn it'll do the trick. YouTube does have some very helpful tid bits. Especially in terms of chemistry. Sometimes you need to dial back the clock a hundred years or so to learn a few good things. Forgotten stuff and all. ;)

Well, it's expensive but if you're looking for a modern, non-NFA belt-fed...

I have tried a couple of those triggers, the Franklin Arms and the Fostech.  They take some getting used to but once you get used to them you can be surprisingly effective with them. Definitely much more control than bump fire stocks. Their regular semi setting was a bit rough, but that could have been early versions that I got to shoot. I am fairly against mag dumps and just blasting away without a purpose, that said if you had one person in your team with one it would add to the volume of fire. Combined with one of these   https://fightlite.com/collections/belt-fed-uppers/products/mcr-037   it could be more useful. Ill stick with my SSA-E triggers.

I am luck enough to get to train regularly with a couple of guys that have access to FA hardware. One has a 249 Para that really adds to our small unit training. This will work out great if we can make it to one another but being we are over 1000miles apart it really doesnt fall into my normal planning or training.

I did shoot with a friend in FL that has one of these MCR uppers on a FA lower.  It was a nice set up, but really needed to use M855 to function properly.  It did not like M193.

Even if I had one I really think I am too cheap to burn through the amount of ammo that you tend to with a belt fed.

Rah- How do you know Hyatts? lol They're not far from me, but I refuse to give them my money. 95% of the guns used in violent crimes here come from their store and I personally know they're gun store manager. At one time I even planned an event with them before I knew some of their folks true character. I've seen that M249 though. I'd rather have the real deal, but I was thinking more along the lines of an RPD. We'll see though.

I don't. They were just on the first page of search results. :-)
