LOL, that water was "cold" too wasn't it? I've got 5 acres a little outside of Hardy about a quarter mile from the Spring River. It's a great trout river by the way.

a canoe is the only boat that I have. I love it, although I don't do it as much as I'd like. of course I'd rather a modest little flat-bottom and a small motor, but the canoe will do for now, and it'll be plenty good enough if we go underwater again. (well... enough to save my family's lives, but not near enough to save all my preps)

In the calmest, nicest little spot in the river we flipped. We both leaned in the same direction. And it was freezing, after awhile the water wasent so bad and it was pretty fun.

I love it. So much fun. One of my all time favorite hobbies.

Yeah, that river is a lot of fun. But man is it cold. It comes out of the spring about 20 miles up river at 58 degrees and I don't know if it ever warms up. There are a lot of youtube video's of people canoeing and tubing the river. The young people in the Hardy area hold a lot of parties down there in the summer. They get kind of wild.
I get a kick out of the concrete low water bridges crossing the river that lead to the property. One of them is about 100 yards long and 7' wide with no side rail or lip on the edge of the bridge at all. It scares my wife to death every time we cross it.
My brother saw it for the first time and before he crossed it he said, "Here, hold my beer and watch this!" LOL.
Here's a video of crossing it.

I'm serious man, listen to how loud they talk. and all that clangin and bangin on the canoe. I watched about 30 seconds and just know they would be reaver bait from a mile away. >:D

Thats a great run. I did it this past June. I love it over there. We gotta place on the St Johns just north of Lake George. So every time we go there we always make sure to hit juniper

Do you live in Florida or just hang out occasionally. Maybe sometime my funds are looking a little better we can do a meat & greet up there at Juniper?

I love that song. While we were going down the river I said "Paddle faster I here Banjos!"

You know, I've lived near water all my life, and I've NEVER went Canoeing. It's always been either a small inflatable, or a big ol beast with a 75hp motor on it. One of the ones I use when I'm working is a 15 foot flat bottom with a 60hp fuel injection motor. That thing is a damn beast.
Might get a canoe sometime though. Lots of rivers, lakes, and ocean to explore.

a canoe may actually be very valuable in WROL if you're staying put in a place on the water.. I guess the environment would have to be relatively safe for me to be a sitting duck in a canoe. but it's a nice means of transport for small supplies without burning any fuel. I guess it's value in WROL would be very subjective to your distance to the water and how safe/unsafe the area is.
other than that, I love them just for recreation. it really is pretty awesome to just take a lazy little trip down a creek or small river.

Yeah dude that's what I was thinking. So many resources around here that are pretty much only accessible via water. Just jump in the canoe or whatever, and boom, there you are with a shit load of whatever.

Reaver, Sounds good man. I live just north of Orlando in Seminole county. And I hear you with the lack of funds!! It sucks! I also canoe the wekiva about everyother month. They have a couple of canoe too campsites on the wekiva. I did one last year and it was awesome. Im going to try to do another one in the next month or two.
