Was reading an interesting article in Recoil (yes, THAT magazine) about MultiCam's development. Was very interesting, I thought. Also a fan of the A-Tacs system. In my area, MultiCam seems to works pretty well during non-snow times. I don't think there is one all-season camo pattern that would work well in places like the midwest, when dealing with snow conditions. Or is there? Been tossing around what pattern would offer the best all-around performance in a suburban and rural areas. What is your choice of camo pattern?

What ever will work for my AO, no matter where I am. I'm not picky.

Spring, summer, fall MARPAT for me in Pennsylvania.

I took some old sheets, cut them and then sowed them so they fit over my winter hunting gear. I then took a black permanent felt pen and drew vertical lines on the pants and smock. Works good enough that a young doe walked past me about 8 paces from where I was sitting last January during flint lock deer season. :))

I am super jealous that MARPAT works for you JMac, I got 3 full sets of gortex in MARPAT and it is just a little too dark for my AO.
What works really nicely here is British DPM (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disruptive_Pattern_Material) but I am looking to get my hands on some of their new Multi-Cam. It is called Multi-Terrain Pattern (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multi-Terrain_Pattern) and it looks hotrod.

OD-fucking-Green. :))

i like multicam and realtree pretty well for my AO. but honestly, even though it's the old cliche camo, I really like the PRICE of the old woodland pattern. I have a healthy amount of all three.
-
OD for every situation except....
I dont really take notice to any particular pattern unless seeing me means im fucked. Then im wearing more then a 2D pattern.
-
Old woodland, if time allows foliage gets attached. Also important but I rarely see it is breaking up my OD painted rifle with what ever works, I hate the eye catching silhouette of solid black rifles unless they are the bad guys.
One day I'll make the time to attach some jute and burlap for a more permanent solution. Don't forget the boots if they are black. I also keep the permethrin treatments up to date this is Florida.

I have a shit ton of acu that I intend to darken up with some rite dye to match but should work good,,, would love to have marpat gear but honestly my shit is mix and match whatever i find a deal on at the time. And really isnt that what its all about is breaking up outlines so mix and match IMO isnt a bad thing.
-
I love Multicam, it works wonders in the rocky hills around here but I also own woodland that is way cheaper and available locally because is used by the Argentinian Army.
-
I really like A-Tacs and Multi cam, but I'm not crazy all the time & $70.00 + for just the blouse is just plain stupid.
Multi cam isn't as expensive but still. Damn.
What works best for me is a mixture of everything.
OD tac vest.
Black/Green/ACU/Tan shirt ( Not same as pants. )
BDU/ACU/Green/Black/Tan pants ( Not same as shirt. )
Black/Tan/Brown boots ( Not same as shirt or pants. )
Just mix it up. The point of camouflage is to break up the pattern and throw off the eye. So what better way to do that than really break up the pattern. A matching set of camouflage roaming through the jungles or streets might actually do more harm than good. Yeah, I don't look as cowboy ninja but it works and it didn't cost me an arm & a leg. I hear yah reaver. Queer eye for the tactical guy.
-
More like Tac-eye for the Queer guy..;)
-
Tan pants, green shirt or jacket, doesn't look out of place in everyday life, and blends in fairly well into the sonoran desert.
To me though, camouflage is more mindset and tactics than clothing.
Shape
Shine
Silhouette
Shadow
And spacing if in a group.
That and local vegetation or dirt works pretty well. I do generally paint my rifles, especially the parts my body touches, as much for camouflage as to keep it from getting painfully hot in the sun. Getting my cheek burned by a black rifle stock left in the sun was enough to convince me.
I am partial to british DPM though, I like the way it looks, and I think it's pretty effective.
-
Hey Tom, I am in the same boat with the sun on black parts. Try putting a sheet of Mole Skin on your stock. It will fix you up.
This also works in the cold.
-
Depends on my environment and the season

Mossy oak works best in my AO (dense trees). Multicam is too much of a yellow-shade green for where I live. I have multicam though in case I have to cross an open field (something I never wanna do).

Here in Tennessee, USMC woodland is as good as Ghille. Almost. Except when the leaves fall off the trees. Like right now. Multicam also looks like it would work. But it looks a little too bright for Tennessee woods.

Here's a great comparison of Marpat vs Multicam.
