Title: Bug Out Locations.
Post by: Reaver on November 06, 2011, 06:43:26 AM
Alright, I know this is a sensitive opsec question. But what does your BOL ( Bug out location ) look like?

I'm going to be going out to mine today to get my father some pictures. ( He's really home sick as of late ) So I figured, aehh, why the hell not post it up here, I mean. Really can any one tell where it is by looking at trees or rocks? If so, the have probably been there prior any way. I am willing to bet no one has been to mine. You'll see why soon enough.
Pics to follow later today.

I'm kind of bugging out before end of the month.

I'm moving from the Federal District where 3 million people live surrounded by a metropolitan area with 12 million souls, to a small city with 130,000 inhabitants in the hills.

Moving sucks, but I'm sure is for the better, besides, if SHTF while I'm in the Federal District I'm pretty fucking dead.

The one of the bruise is when I fell out of a tree... long story short it was quite a fall about 20 feet to the river bank. I maintained my self though. + 1 on Camel back products shit took a solid impact from a 205 pound dude on a 20 foot fall and didn't split or brake any seals. More of a review to follow shortly.

Yep, that looks like Florida.  If I walk 100' straight out my front door I'm right in the middle of the same type of stuff.  Then that stretches over to Florida's west coast only being broken up by the occasional grove, road or highway.

Did you find any hog or turkey tracks out there?

I'd leave that spider right where he's at, I've seen grown men lose it over bugs when they know better. Consider him a trail guard. Those pictures are florida at its finest right there. Looks like wet ground by those elephant ears.

And lets not forget their little trip wires. If you use a trail regularly and notice that you are constantly catching spider webs in the face. you could use a lack of spider webs as an indicator someone or something has recently passed along that trail. just another use for your friendly neighborhood spider man.

I really like spiders outside, and I don't mind them in the house ether. But I can't stand brown recluses, freaking scary.

I didn't even know what a "brown recluse" is, so I google image it and after seeing the injuries its bite produces I can tell you I got scared of them too :D

Reaver that BOL is freakin beautiful. (minus the spiders... fuck that) when I used to live in tampa, those big crazy looking banana spiders were my arch enemy... lol.

but anyway, this thread REALLY makes me want to post pics of my BOL.. I think some of you may be jealous  :P . maybe I will sooner or later but I don't think I even have any pics as of yet.

I'm going to leave it natural for a bit. My body hurts currently. I'm out of action for a few days.
Landed pretty hard on my spine.
Eventually I'll go out there and clear out a little section. But I'm not going to leave any gear out there unless its buried.
Remember I still got my original BOL as well. & its got a fresh water well.

I'm going to try an bug in here in Florida if possible but it all depends on the situation.  There are 27 adults in the group with a broad spectrum of skills.  Everyone is at least related to a couple of other people in the group.  I'm sure there will be others that join in as well.

The community I live in wouldn't be hard to defend and is on the outskirts of town.  It has adequate water for gardening and a surplus of fish.  Plus a 100' march out the front door and I'm in the woods with plenty of wild game.

If I'm forced to leave due to whatever situation arises I've got a few options.

I could move inland in the woods.

We have an invite to come to Wolf Laurel in the mountains outside of Mars Hill, NC.

We own property outside of Hardy, AR which is very secluded, has water and significant wild game.

If Florida, being a peninsula, is sealed off due to martial law (which would be easy to do) the group has access to a 35' sail boat to head to the Caribbean, South America, or to one of the southern gulf states.

Which avenue we would take, as said earlier, would depend on the situation.

No offense man.
But I would leave you at the camp until you get a tad bit older.

Your better off studying maps. Cooking cleaning and gathering water. I know it sounds shitty, but your to young to risk death. You are the life blood of our country and if You where in my group you would not have a say. until you proved yourself otherwise. & eventually you would get your chance.

It basically depends on your maturity. I was and am being raised to take care of myself. So as soon as I hit 18, Its out of the house and into the army.

trust me im not babyfied like most of America, im not ur average kid, idont go to the mall or play video games nor do i have a phone, since i was little my dad has always brought me hunting and shooting with him, i guess thats why i was bullied alot when i was younger cause i wasnt like other kids and i was small, most kids parents didnt let me around there house cause they thought i was "dangerous" and "trouble". but people who bullied me found out karma is a bitch. People dont know the anger i hold, and if people come to take my food or hurt my family i am not afraid to fight till the death. @TheSpiritofAdventure soon as im 18 im joining the Marines if the U.S. is still in one piece.

Yes we know your story. Its not about how hard ass you are. We are still young ens and getting shot in the face at 16 is no way to get laid.

Yes we know your story. Its not about how hard ass you are. We are still young ens and getting shot in the face at 16 is no way to get laid.

spirit, you've certainly earned my respect. you're a damn good kid (don't take the term "kid" the wrong way, you're more of a man than 99.9% of others your age and I hope you continue down the right path)

that being said, being shot in the face at 18 "for your country" is no better than being shot in the face at 16 for your retreat group. if the war is truly justified then I'd say go for it. hell, you may even see me out there on the field if it's truly justified. all I'm saying is I'd re-think your "18 = army" mindset. by all means, do whatever you feel that you need to do, but I couldn't let that one go without weighing in on it. you shouldn't join the military unless you're willing to stand, fight, and risk your life for the people behind the war. do you think "Operation Iranian Freedom" is really justified, or worth risking your life for? if you do think so, then seriously man, do what you do, more power to you. but just remember those words, RULES, and ideas that are written in the CONUS, and ask yourself whether fighting an illegal war in the name of a small handful of powerful people is really the right way to go. you show far too much potential to become cannon fodder. If you're going to join the military, do it to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, not to expand the Anglo-American Empire.

I see what you are saying and I respect that. But I have no plans to run out on the battlefield at 18. I'm gonna do the reserves to pay for my collage, then when I gain some rank, go active duty for a little bit. Besides I don't have a huge problem with the people who give me food, money, and a good life. My true home is in heaven. And If I get shot I go home to the Spirit in the sky.

This section is pretty much a glorified drainage canal connected to the st johns, about 12 mile run mostly natural but thru some dense swampy crap too. The sides have old dredge spoils stacked about 10-15 foot high. Those pics were taken from a small entrenchment I dug, see below.

reaver why'd you delete all those great pics? I hope it's not paranoia, bro, nobody can find your spot just from those pictures. as long as you didn't take them with a phone. I heard that smart-phone pics can be pinpointed even after being uploaded on the interwebz. some kind of embedded coding or something. (i don't know nothing about that shit, but  i stay away from the fancy phones anyway)

anyway, I'm going to be at my BOL from tomorrow to Thursday. I'll try to get a few good landscape shots to post up.

Reaver,
sorry you deleted your pics I would have liked to of seen them.

Our BOL is at 1,400 ft (Mountain is 1,700 ft) and there is only 2 ways off (road) or on the mountain. I have a home steading farmer and his family that live across our dirt road. He also owns one of the Pub's in town which is 4 or 5 miles away- Population around 2,000 people. A small city is about 25 miles away though.

On the mountain there is about a dozen year round residents and in the summer add another dozen or so. My brother and I have chatted with each houses residents on the mountain and they are all in tune with the economy and what is coming but one gentleman. He is a professor at the small city mentioned above.

We have a 1,400 sq ft log cabin that my brother, 2 framers and I built in the fall of 2010. It has no electric other then a bank of marine batteries poered by a big ass solar pannel; although in the winter we do run 3, 100' extension cord from the farmer's barn to our cabin to run the ceiling fan in the great room. It has no running water. We heat with a big ass Jotul wood stove and cook with a propane gas range that does not run on electric. It operates with pilot lights (Boy was that hard to find). I ran 900 ft of 1" flexable pipe from a spring / well up the mountain behind the farmers house. It runs to a spigot on the side of the house with a Y valve. A hose is hooked up to one of the outlets which snakes off to a runoff area and is on all of the time so the spigot does not freeze. The other part of the Y valve we use for filling 5 gallon buckets for: Toilet bowls and drinking/ cooking water.

The property is about 35 acres with a closed quarry, creek, an apple & pear orchard and a vegetable garden that we are tripleing next year.

I will check out my photo folder and post some pictures if anyone is interested.

JohnyMac,

A significant portion of that "small" city's population is headed straight for you and yours, buddy. Once SHTF, I hope you have some sort of excellent defensive plan involving your neighbors, because if it sounds like you have as few people in that community as you say you do, I can see you being quickly overrun.

Just out of curiosity (and I know that Mtnredneck is in a similar position), would you guys mind starting a topic and sharing what your plans are? You seem to be literally the small, laid-back mountain community vs. the horde, something of great interest to me.

100# coyote? WOW! The biggest I ever saw dead that is was around 60#'s. They are mostly in the 30-40# range at our cabin.

Yeah, up here they say that they're part wolf, and supposedly they came across an ice flow from Quebec/Labrador.

Those fuckers have nearly wiped out the caribou on the island sure, but the Gov. doesn't want to admit it, and rather blame poaching and global warming lol. I can remember as a kid back in the 90's and seeing hundreds of thousands of those caribou in herds. Wish I had pictures of it. It was quite amazing.

I really like spiders outside, and I don't mind them in the house ether. But I can't stand brown recluses, freaking scary.

I didn't even know what a "brown recluse" is, so I google image it and after seeing the injuries its bite produces I can tell you I got scared of them too :D

Oh man, I was bitten by a brown recluse in 2002 and let me say that little shit kicked my ass. I'm a big boy, 6'2 and 260lbs and have rarely let things get the best of me. I was bitten between the shoulder blades I could barely move my arms or open my mouth. I ran a fever and had red streaking running up my neck and arms. I felt like I was run over by a truck. It took a trip to the ED and several follow ups to my Dr before I was to 100%

My sister inlaw was bitten last year on the leg by a Brown Recluse spider Buck Naked. We do do not know if she was bitten up at the cabin or at here home.

She ended up in the hospital for two days with with all kinds of stuff dripping into her. Like you stated she also had red streaks but they were running up her leg.

Some nasty shit man.

More in line with this thread - It occurs to me that we should all have a basic knowledge of the dangerous creatures that live in our general areas. Most, if not all of us, do. However, how many people know home remedies for something like a brown recluse bite? There won't be an ER if SHTF. What do you use/do?

I live rurally so I will have more time (perhaps weeks or months more) than you city-slickers.  I will Bug-In at first and them perhaps bug-out later.  Hoosier National Forest looks kinda good...
