Bases of Prepping?
« on: September 21, 2011, 06:51:34 PM »
Just wondering if any of the Veterans from the Forum can just give me the bases to prepping. I'm extremely willing to learn if you guys are willing to share your information.  :)

Hey vandal.
I would have to say the very basic concerns of prepping are.
Food & water.
Shelter.
Medical and hygiene.
Security.
Having prestocked supplies of food and water. and methods of purifying water and growing ones own food, are corner stone elements to prepping.
Having shelter like a home, bug out location or the ability to protect yourself from the elements is another essential.
Have basic medical supplies ready and hygiene is important to staying healthy. you may not have the option of going to a medical professional.
And some basic security. Have a means of protecting yourself if their is no rule of law. Know your gun laws and practice to become proficient with the equipment you have. If your truly new to prepping i would start to study these areas of interest. Make goals to reach. and concentrate on them. Study study study. And remember prepping does take time(unless you have unlimited funds at your disposal.) don't get discoraged just stick to your plan. Oh yeah and study. I hope that helps you get started bro. whiskey pretty much covered it.

one thing I would add is be careful not to get overly wrapped up in security. of course it's one of the most important aspects, but when I first got into this whole mindset, I focused so heavily on guns that I neglected other important things like food preps and medical, and feel like I'm STILL playing catch-up.

of course guns are the "fun part"  >:D, but the other more mundane aspects of prepping are every bit as important.

Its good to hear man. If you dont really have much in the way of food preps. you cant go wrong with beans and rice.

Nola makes an excelent point man. Guns are great but you cant eat or drink em. and you can build up food and medical preps faster than you can ammo and guns

To complement what the other guys told you, you can check a post that is in the front page of the board http://straightprep.com/forum/index.php in there talks about the basics elements you need.

Also, as was mentioned, unless you are loaded, it will take you some time to prep, but there are things you can do for free or really cheap whose value is incredible, for instance:

* Do physical exercise, its useless to have a bug out bag if you can't walk 200 yards
* Look for free/cheap courses in your area, like first aid from the red cross
* Study a lot, internet, forums, pdfs from the internet, youtube, torrents
* Learn to live frugal, stop watching TV that fries your mind

And above all, enjoy the ride

Hope it helps bro
