Buying Commodities
« on: May 22, 2022, 02:44:21 PM »
Leading up to hyperinflation in the Weimar Republic, Germans kept very little money in the bank or under the mattress. Instead they bought commodities. Pianos, painting's, jewelry, cars, etcetera.

Using the 1980 CPI formula, inflation is hovering around 18%. Consequently, we have been buying commodities with cash for the last two years. Some things we have purchased was,

> Used car with low mileage,
> Solar set-up with additional batteries ordered this year,
> New refrigerator,
> Plywood and 2x4x8's,
> Screws, nuts and bolts,
> Etcetera.

Well Tractor Supply is having a rototiller sale. 10% off regular price PLUS 12-months same as cash. As I have mentioned before, our 4' wide tractor driven rototiller died and just recently my walk behind now isn't working. In short we bought a tractor driven TS one. One foot wider too.

When I brought it up to MrsMac before I spent the money, I thought she was going to say no. Well she didn't, she said yes.

Her response was, "lets keep buying commodities while cash works. When the SHTF, I will just hire you out to till peoples gardens".

Buy commodities.

Johny, tangibles are the way to go.

You might purchase a broadfork too, like Felix suggested, when there's no more fuel available.  Our MAG met yesterday and the focus was on food.  Everyone in the group has enthusiastically jumped on the gardening bandwagon.  We discussed the possibilities of fuel shortages, in addition to food shortages.  So, a broadfork and a wheel hoe could also be rented out or bartered out.  One fellow has a horse, with some basic farming implements, he could become real popular next spring planting season.
