April 19th Snow In NE PA
« on: April 19, 2022, 10:38:22 AM »
Woke up to 8 1/2 inches of snow this AM and no grid electric. Solar is turned on and we moved on. LOL.

I measured the snow again 15-min ago and we are up to 10 inches.

I had a QSO about an hour ago with FF who is located about 20-miles west of me received just shy of 14 inches. His grid juice was down too but now back up.

Yes, it is April 19th.  :o

If my memory skills are any good that 20 miles end would be around Orwell.  Live on top of that hill for a couple years about 100 years ago.

The joys of Spring in the northeast!  It's sunny here on the Cumberland Plateau in TN, but cool, just 40 degrees this morning.  Last night, I had to cover the greens that are popping up in the garden.  It's suppose to be in the 80's here by the weekend.  I'll be out weed whacking later.  I don't miss the April snows at all.

Yep, we had about 13 7/8" here (not Orwell), put the snowshoes on to go get the mail, hopefully that's the last time I'll use them until December or January. It's just barely freezing, so it's a wet, heavy snow that's bringing down all the Ash trees killed by the Emerald Ash Borer, and along with them, a good number of powerlines. Also lost phone service to certain areas. Even the local 2m repeaters are acting up. Luckily today is my day off, so I'm working hard at being lazy.  :coffeeNews:

This morning when I woke up, I had no idea if we had commercial power or not, and I didn't really care. That's the best part about being prepared for things, if it's not a major catastrophe, you can relax, enjoy some strange weather, and catch up on other things. I won't say "no worries", but at least no immediate worries.

And it's supposed to be 70 on Sunday, so it won't be around long. Not even supposed to be below freezing for the next 10 days. The garden is going to be a mudhole for a few days though.

In SE Virginia, we've had a lot of rain come through in the last few weeks. Yesterday, we had a cold front come through and lots of rain. Today has been about 55 and windy with no rain.

Thank you RB  :suicide:

Electric came back on at 1510 local today. A nice 84-hour test for our preps. I will put together an AAR for this event later however, for you folks who are interested, the new solar system behaved like a champ.

Our local MAG is having a meeting tomorrow afternoon to discuss the good, bad, and ugly from the event.

Glad you and the xyl survived the outage without major problems.  I'll be interested in your AAR, and the comments from your MAG.
