You know, women folk. Don't worry guys. Ol HJ ain't looking to steal them away or turn this into one of them dating sites. I'm already spoke fer. Just wanna hear Preppin thoughts from some of them or get their perspective or whatever. Mostly just wondered if any are on here. I know there's some out there, I've seen em on the Youtube.
-
There are a couple. My wife jumps on every once in a while....
Most of the time only when Facebook is down [img]http://www.arrse.co.uk/at
-
There is one that has a site, if you google "SouthernBellePrepper" that seems pretty neat. She is also on Youtube.

I have invited several. All have told me that they have looked at the site but felt the site had too much testosterone. With that said, I know that two of them do go on and lurk at times as they comment on some posts.
It's not bad or good it is what it is.

Too much testosterone? Who says that? There is never enough testosterone! Bwhahaha! [img]http://www.smileydesign.n

Maybe TG can put up some nice frilly curtains or something? ;D

Oh man, how could we forget about TG
Yeah, new guy TG is on here.
TG's as girly as they come. :))

Too much testosterone? The Hell you say!

It is one of the problems that we have here. The guys feel comfortable to joke with each other and to some extent that keep new members from speaking up and asking questions because they see us busting on one another and are afraid they are going to get treated the same way. What they don't know is that most of us have been interacting with each other for a couple of years or more now.

On top of that some kids who don't know that we are joking get defensive, and it is almost impossible to snap them out of it.

You reap what you sow.
I don't know the answer as I am just as guilty as some of you, turning people off. Obviously not intended but it happens.
I am up at the cabin this week. The farmer came across the lane this morning to check in. He asked me if I would like a sofa as he is going to burn one to make room in his cellar. Before I committed I went across the lane to check it out about an hour ago. His wife was there (One of the gals who checked our site out).
Now this gal is in her 40's, a teacher, cans her own veggies and meat. She isn't squeamish with chopping a head off a chicken either. She is easy on the eyes also whoops there I go again [img]http://www.arrse.co.uk/at
OK, OK back on track. The sofa is in their basement and she showed it to me and explained that it was brand new when they got it but she needed the space. We got into a discussion about planting and canning for this season and I asked her if she had retried Straight Prep.
She told me that occasionally she checks it out but hadn't been on since before Thanksgiving. I encouraged her to go on again and get caught up.
I could see that she was a little uneasy and her husband interjected, "Ah she thinks it's a guys site. She's worried that we will bust her balls if she posts anything." Then he chuckled.
So there you go...This happened like an hour ago.
So what are we going to do? Let things stay the way they are or?????
I am sure TG would love some suggestions. Personally I think we are missing out on a great source of info.

What? I thought this place was supposed to be just like the He-Man Women Haters Club. Boy was I wrong.
He-Man Women Haters Club Meeting (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wBIC8JTQMMQ#)
The point is that I've never seen a lot of women hand around ANY firearm or prepping website, it just doesn't happen. Sorry. There is no way to make women come here or make them stay. I don't know what the answer is, as its this way at EVER website about guns or prepping.
-
EJR That video was awesome! I remember watching the Little Rascals on TV Saturday morning's. Thanks for posting it.
I respectively disagree with you though when you wrote, "The point is that I've never seen a lot of women hand around ANY firearm or prepping website, it just doesn't happen."
www.survivalblog.com (http://www.survivalblog.com) has a huge female audience. Also I have spoken with TG at length and I do not think he ever thought that this site would be just a "firearm [or] prepping website."
If I am off base here let me have it with both barrels. :))
Last, if we all want it to be just a "boy's club" site that is cool too. Just responding to the input that everyone has given.

Johny is 100% correct. I never thought of this site as a gun site or a news site. As a matter of fact I am kind of disappointed that there isn't more useful information.
I intended this to be a place where we could interact with folks who are new to prepping, folks who got scared because of Katrina, Joplin, Fuakashima or what ever. I imagined a place where we could shape the future of our movement. Sure I have lofty ideas but it would be nice if our wives, sisters and mothers felt comfortable expressing their opinions on Straightprep.com/forum. They have knowledge that we need.
You eat an elephant a bite at a time and I am pleased that you guys are being nice to the new guys and by and large are kind to each other. We can work on the other shit later.

LOL! I don't know why I find that so funny. :) I guess because I've witnessed (or taken part) in a few things along the way. This group of people is something else and it's been a lot of fun watching them interact. I've seen bumping heads, love fests, deeply felt disagreements, teasing, chest thumping, playing, sharing of ideas, concern for a members safety, encouragement, and more than once I had to turn to a dictionary to understand what message a member was trying to convey. ( Now I know the proper use of the word dipwad.)
I won't say that I love you guys cause that sounds kinda gay. But I will say that I love watching you guys interact with each other. :)
-
I will say it Sledge, I love you guys!
Note the lack of a "No-Homo," yeah its like that...
-
I know I'm the new guy here so I'll go along with whatever. I was just curious cause I've seen quite a few women preppers on Youtube. Heck, I just got here and already like this site. Don't want to make any waves. You wanted suggestions. What if you had a section for the women like you do for gear or politics or whatever. The guys could encourage their wives to try it out. The women could get to know each other. We could click on it, be respectful and all that. Shoot the breeze, exchange ideas, etc. If they want to talk guns, their welcome to, but if they don't want to deal with a little colorful language, they don't have to click on anything else. Whatever, I'm new to the neighborhood.
-
Great idea HJ!
Someone want to tell the 'Prisila the Prepper' story for the new guy?
And by the way dude don't worry about making waves or being polite, we don't worry about that stuff here. We are all about honesty and reality. If you see someone being an idiot feel free to tell them so in a respect full manner. We are all grown men (except BackWoodsBoy and SpirtofAdventure but those boys are coming up to speed nicely) so no worries about 'hurt feelings.'
-
Definitely need more women in here....

HJ & TG, I agree; maybe a separate folder would be appropriate. We just have to keep RvR and old JohnyMac out of it talking about barbecuing babies. [img]http://www.arrse.co.uk/at
No offense RvR just saying, OK [URL=http://www.smileyvault.co I will hold back my recipe if you will too.
-
I don't practice recipe's bro... I just wing it with a mixture of sauces and spices... mostly my own. :o
Interpret that as you may. ::) :))

Hey guys, I was thinking. Besides getting input from the ladies and seeing things from their perspective and all that. If the SHTF, worse comes to worse, and we gotta start over, we're gonna need breeders.

I'll let someone else handle this one.
-
ever tried a singles bar?
-
I don't know if you'd find many prepper types there. Maybe a sportsman's club. You'd want good stock.

That's easy. Some of us just have to assert themselves as the "alpha male." Just watch this video, but imagine instead of "horse" he says "girls." Alpha Male Behavior, Great Example (Zeb Macahan) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBBT8T8hbiw#ws)
