ACU knee/elbow inserts
« on: July 11, 2013, 03:43:16 PM »
Hey guys

Are any of you using knee/elbow pads inserts in your ACUs? Do you find them useful? Do you think you can create a homemade version, with shipping those thingies get really expensive to buy internationally.

Thanks

I use knee pads I purchased from the local motor cycle store. My BUD's do not have a spot for inserts. To be honest, I would prefer the inserts as the strap on knee pads can tend to move and bind on long patrols. I do not use elbow pads. Maybe I should.

I also wear Nomex gloves.

I am getting ready to buy body armor from Target Man http://www.thetargetman.com/product/2-formed-ar500-omega-armor-formed-10x12-plate-set-rhino-lined-for-proven-frag-protection/

Once that is done I will be saving up to take one of Max Velocity's classes in West Virginia in the fall.

I would kill to be in one of Mosby's or Max's classes...

Pockets for inserts come in ACUs, BDUs didn't include them, although you could saw them easily.
Is common for outer protections to move out of place or being uncomfortable, but being harder they offer more protection.

Plan a vacation (holiday) in the fall and come north to one of Max's classes. You pay for your trip and Max's class and I will supply you with the ammo and weapon (s) of your choice... Seriously, you know how to contact me.

I have some military surplus elbow and knee pads in ACU color. They incorporate velcro straps and are VERY comfortable. I'll probably paint them a different color, since, as Mosby said, they are "A-see you."

Ha, from where I am it doesn't matter if I go to WV with Max or Idaho with Mosby, it's going to be a loooong drive.

I got hold of a set while in, but did not like them for a couple of reasons.
They are just thin foam and don't provide protection from that comfortable firing range gravel.

Because they are inserted into the ACU's the pads like to drift and not stay where they are needed making you hesitant to drop in the prone not knowing what to expect.

ACU's are generally low quality stitching and material, so using them to scrape the cement/asphalt/Gravel will lead to a one day shelf life, in the military as you won't be able to use them afterwards outside of field duty.

So cough up an other $50's Private!
It's not like you are paid below the poverty line...
