I cant deny much of what he says even though i run .40

But i will say that .40 has MUCH higher energy then a 9mm could ever dream.

165 grain .40 @ 20 yards = 434 ft/lbs
124 grain 9mm @ 20 yards = 326 ft/lbs

Those numbers are modest even giving the 9mm the SAME velocity as the .40

.40 hits harder... wether its worth it for the added recoil is up in the air but for james to say you hardly gain energy going to the .40 is silly.

He sure does make some great points, though. 

I run a .40 and yeah it kicks lick a mule, but it will also pack a punch with the correct ammo in it as well, maybe even harder than a 9mm.

Its going fast than a .45, but its the stop gap between that an 9mm.  Its a nasty round, same with the .357 SIG, its a hot round that packs a punch.  A small projectile going fast, creates a huge hyrdostatic ripping hole that closes up, but still will fuck someone up.  Besides the magnums, this is as close as you're going to get to a rifle round, which more easily kills people, if the quality of the hit isn't perfect, like a head, heart, lung, neurological shot.

It was an invention to a problem that doesn't exist, but it still kicks ass and is a badass round.

I got rid of everything .40cal nearly 10 years ago.

My shot times and accuracy are always MUCH better with 9 or .45. The clock
and the results downrange have never lied.

I wanted a S&W Shield SOOOOOO bad and they were SOOOOOO hard to get, all I could find was .40.
I said fuck it and bought one in .40, I figured it was a CCW gun, I wouldn't be shooting it for recreational purposes, I wouldn't have to stock ammo or anything.

I went to the range the day I got it, fired the 7rnd mag, got back in my car and went home.
I !!!HATED!!! it! SO damn snappy, loud and over pressured. I SWORE that if I EVER had to use that
gun in defense that MOTHERFUCKER would regret EVER being born.. If I had to use that gun I would be SO PISSED!!!

I ended up getting the 9mm version sometime later. LOVE it. Best carry gun I've ever owned.

I hate .40 in anything but a MP5.

The only .40 I ever liked was a friend's Beretta 96 which had been modified with an aftermarket recoil spring. I almost bought and HK USP at a great price, but after firing multiple magazines through it I found I had to adjust my grip after every shot.

9MM has less recoil and thus gets rounds on target faster then a .40..

9MM costs less for ammo...

9MM has less recoil as stated above so it dosent put as much wear on the pistol....

For most situations except concealed a handgun is third choice to a rifle or carbine and is way behind the curve already (a pistol caliber smg is 2nd imo).

Follow up shots are pretty much understood but 1 or 2 vs 3 or 4 makes recovery time moot.

I sure as hell ain't tossing out my 10mm for a 9mm or an even faster on recovery time .380, .32 or .22lr (I might pick up a 9x25 barrel though).

Wear?  WTF, my Ruger mk2 will in all probability out last me and it's super cheap to feed...

I would also think this guy would have an appreciation for penetration particularly car bodies, windshields, light cover, retained energy at a distance...

For the most part, modern ammunition design is what is making speed at the muzzle, between the muzzle and target,
and at the target, less and less relevant. Most modern projectiles meant for expansion are capable of expanding at slower
speeds than older design.

Also, over the years, with rounds such as the .300 whisper, .300 fireball, 338 spectre, etc- gaining popularity, and now
SAAMI spec .300 blkout, slower/subsonic and far more frangible ammunition are just more common.
I have several types of ammunition here that are designed as such. I have several types that were designed for short barreled
rifles. The projectile wont reach the speeds once needed for deformation and fragmentation out of the shorter barrel.

Point is, muzzle velocity, terminal velocity, etc are becoming a moot point due to better technology and understanding of projectiles. Why make a big boom, heavy recoil and slower follow up if the expansion ends up the same?

Penetration of barriers or other inanimate objects? That may be another story when talking handgun rounds.

Ya no doubt technology is making slower smaller calibers more effective and intern making a less recoil caliber more desirable due to other clear advantages from that. At the same time wether its needed or not energy is created from speed and mass and with those two variables you end up with wound channels much larger then then exapnded bullet itself. So even though a slower smaller bullet may itself as a projectile come out the same size as a faster bigger projectile the wound channel cannot be recreated without similar energy being transfered to the body.

Theres a give and take and im not going to sit here and say 9mm isnt an adequete measure of all variables because it may very well be the best measure of recoil to wound created but a 9mm will never create a wound channel like a .40 can.

I researched it.  Yeager's argument has ZERO factual basis.  Look up the SAAMI pressure specs for both the 9mm and the .40.  They are IDENTICAL!  If you take in to account that a lot of shooters carry +p and +p+ in 9mm that further invalidates the argument.  I dunno why so many listen to this puke.  He is not a guru.  He is a self-proclaimed self-defense ninja, nothing more.  I'll bet one of his "students" was Tex Grebner.
