2017 - Fall is Here!
« on: September 08, 2017, 11:05:21 AM »
My neighbour and i took our three pigs to the butcher yesterday about 30 minutes north of us into enemy country called New York. As we were driving north and keeping our eyes out for injun's (NY STATE TROOPERS) we noticed that many of the maple trees leaves were changing color. We both commented that this is the earliest we have seen this change since we have lived up here. Plus, as Jackalope reported in another subject line, temps are noticeably cooler.

No days for the past week have gone over 65 degrees and most morning's are in the 40 - 50 degree range. Burrrr! And I am lite on stove wood by about one - 1 1/2 cords.

On another note: We have harvested a lot of critters and each time we herd the critter (s) into a trailer, haul them off to the butcher, and then fill out a "cut sheet". Not this time though.

The butcher requested that we bring the pigs in dead! Huh????

Well doing what was asked we dispatched the three pigs at 0700 hrs and then drove north into injun country as described above.

Two went down pretty quick with head shots but the third needed three 5.56Nato rounds.

We cut their jugulars and while they bleed out I got my new Kubota tractor to place them in my neighbours F150. We trailed blood all the way to the butcher. LOL.

Yupper, fall is here!

Yes, Fall is definitely here.  Today's day time temperature never got above 55.  I'll fire up the woodstove in a little bit.  And a week ago today we had a frost, I believe the weather service said it got down to 30 degrees F.  Today would have been a good day to snuggle up next to the woodstove with a good book...

All of the nuts are falling off of the trees a full month and 1/2 early. Hickory, Bitternut Hickory, Butternut and eggcorns from my White Oak and Scarlet Oak. Not yet the Black Walnuts.  I've been picking up about 100 nuts a day thing is they aren't ripe yet.
